You Have Lots of Infantry

After Spekaing to Imam Khomeini about Kurdistan issues, my mission zone changed from Kuridstan to the war zones, themselves. It was the beginning of the war and I had been appointed as the commander of the Ground Forces.

It was the time that we needed to get prepared to launch the military operation ‘Tariq Al-Quds’. The situation did not to be appropriate at all. The enemy had entered our territories with its highest power, facilities and weaponries.

Therefore we attempted to concentrate all of our forces from the Army and Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in the battlefields. There was no more forces in terms of quality and quantity to bring in the military operation and to push back the enemy; that is why we needed to be so cautious too.

In order to prepare ourselves for the military operation, a joint headquarters from the Army and Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps was established in Ahvaz city. Some coordination, interactions and many efforts would be done in the new recent established headquarters continuously.

The first military operation which had been planed was the military operation ‘Tariq Al-Quds’.

Also Imam Khomeini from Tehran would track and follow the development of work both directly and indirectly.

We held a meeting with Ayatollah Khamenei, the president of the time (supreme leader of Islamic Revolution) and Mr. Hashemi Rafsanjani, the head of Islamic Parliament of that time and also the represanative of Imam in the Defense Excellence Council, defense minister and the general commander of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps…and Imam Khomeini was present in our meeting as well.

The reports which would be presented to Imam Khomeini were mostly about difficulties and shortages. In some cases we would point out to the military power of enemy that it was like this and like that!

Imam Khomeini would listen so carefully to the speeches of that persons and he would pay attention to the speaker as well. He was not looking at anyone else except the one who was a lecturer. When my speeches were finished, since my words were mostly about the effects of pressures, shortages or the dealing and the excuses for not starting the military operations, after that Imam Khomeini said: “You should remember that whatever facilities and weaponries the enemy has, instead you have many more forces…”?

All the attentions were absorbed to the abovementioned sentence of Imam Khomeini. Of course his other statements and words were mentioned in explanation of this issue. The sentences were expressed as I said: “You must pay attention to this issue that if they have modern weaponries, you have many more forces.”? It was clear that Imam Khomeini did not mean the quantity of our forces, he meant the quality of our forces, because our war veterans were really sincere forces. All the senior ranking and junior ranking forces, Basijis, Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and Army forces had this significant characteristic.

These sincere forces would be honor based on the outlook of Imam Khomeini. The word ‘Many’ was really valuable for us and according to this perspective, we learnt many lessons from Imam Khomeini regarding the quality of our forces, while until that time we would not count on this factor so much. It means some of the authorities were unaware of this issue and they would mostly focus on the materialistic issues such as having tanks, artilleries, weaponries and modern equipments of enemy.
