Veteran war Photographer: "We have been careless in preserving war photos

TEHRAN, (SCIB) - We have not done enough in preserving the photos of war, veteran war photographer tells Shahed reporter.

“Iranian photographer put love in their photographers. If you compare the equipments we had with those of our European counterparts, you will see that it is only love that was driving Iranian photographers.”? Sobhan Kohan Bani, veteran war photographer, said in an interview with Shahed. “A photograph is an important historical document in the history of any country. Especially if it seeks to prove facts that others are trying to deny”? Kohanbani added. The experienced press photographer stressed the necessity to employ proper ways of preserving photographs. “It is important to preserve war photographs both due to their historical and documentary significance, as well their instrumentality to familiarize new generations with the realities of war. Preserving war photographs assumes greater significance when we appreciate that these can leave a greater impact on the audience than films, stories, paintings, etc”? He pointed to the exhibition “Art of Sacrifice”? as a remarkable attempt to spread the culture of sacrifice and martyrdom. “It would have been much nicer if the exhibition received more coverage in the media”? the photographer commented. “It is an obvious fact today that the holding of an exhibition does not merely serve to display photos or paintings for a few days; It serves a purpose beyond this. Its purpose is to reveal facts about a crucial historical or social event”? he continued. The veteran war photographer underscored the necessity to archive war photographs. “Unfortunately, we do not have a proper institution to archive those photographs. The photos shot by Iranian photographs are unrivaled. Why do we not think that future generations will expect us to show them documentary evidence of the war?”? “Sooner or later we will see the consequence of such thoughtlessness”? Kohan Bani warned.
