Iraqi Water-Carrier

Navideshahed - The military operation ‘Beitol Moghadas’ took place on Thursday, April 29, 1982.

Eventually after the conflicts, we pushed back the enemy and we captured many of them who were resisting. The war veterans of the Army and Basij had passed about 15 kilometers from the war zones while they were involved in conflicts and attacks. The canteens were empty and no water existed for the war veterans, so most of the fighters were seriously thirsty. Each of them would say: "So where is the water?”

- Why no one brings water for us?

An hour passed from the noon, but did not have any news about water. While we were so worried bout the final situation, suddenly the sound of some soldiers made me absorbed towards them.

They had gathered near a tanker. When I went closer, I noticed that the tanker belongs to enemy. I had become absolutely dizzy and confused that why the tanker existed there? After some investigation, I noticed that the tanker had been delivered there from Khorramshahr to the Iraqi forces stationed in Hamid garrison.

The tanker that was full of cold water, instead of going to Hamid Garrison, it had arrived to our forces under that sensitive and catastrophic situation.

It was really interesting because several military units had stationed about 170 km away from Ahvaz-Khorramshahr road. I don’t know why they had not stopped the delivery of this tanker that was full of water. Anyways, all of the forces drank water so much and they became satiated and we were able to add an Iraqi vehicle to our own vehicles as spoils. Since the driver was not a military man, we released him and we said: "You delivered water to us on behalf of the war captives server and you yourself did not know this issue, so we release you. The Iraqi left us so unbelievably.”
