Details on Writing 6 Books by Ayatollah Khamenei during His Eminence's Campaigns

Some persons got involved in army forces, some got involved in political fighting and some of the clerics based on the analysis that they had from spirituality, chose another policy in this field.

It can be said that Ayatollah Khamenei also paid attention to this policy as a particular interest. Under this policy, along with other activities in addition to fighting militants, it would consider the thought of the society and the community thought as well.

In considering the Ayatollah Khamenei's speeches and written texts, we can categorize them into four periods.

The first period of these written texts is related to the fighting era; it means from the beginning of his fighting activities until February 11, 1979. The second period is related from the victory of Islamic Revolution until the beginning of his presidency. During this time he has given speech in many places and spieclly in the universities and mosques and other Islamic societies. The third period is related to his presidency era and the fourth period also belongs to his leadership from June 3, 1989 until now. The capacity and level of his speeches only in the years related to leadership is in a way that if we publish them, they will be about 22000 pages it means 22 volumes of 1000-pages books.

So in this text, we have decided only to point out some of the parts of this issues and to some of the books that have been translated of authored by him during the first era which means from the beginning of his activities until February 11, 1979.

During this time he wrote the books "future in the territory of Islam", "Muslims in the Indian Freedom Movement", "A report regarding the historical background and current situation of Mashhad seminary", "Peace of Imam Hassan (AS)", "Sketch of the ideas in the Koran", " speech about patience "and some other written publication. Each of these works in the general framework of his thought is an answer to the needs of those days.

Here's a brief introduction to this books, but before that we refer to features that exist in his works. The first feature is based on the work of Islamic-religious thought. It means in all of his speeches there is no case that the name of religious education not to be mentioned; even there are some words about the economy, agriculture, literature and poetry.

The second feature of his works is reflecting the extensive scientific, cultural, historical and social information. This point is affirmed by all those who have had dealing with his remarks.

The third feature is enjoying the accurate and comprehensive analysis of the effects of historical events in the world and especially the Muslim world.

The fourth feature is the breadth of different areas of thought in his works. The Jurisprudential, social, literary, political discourses and other issues, all in the range of his works are considered as a prominent and visible issue.

The fifth feature is the existence of prospective prediction of the status of the world and the history of Islamic Revolution is his works. For example for the first that the he used the phrase ‘Islamic Awakening’ as a meaning of people protests in the Islamic world, it was related to 1989. Apart from that, in different occasions he had anticipated this event and of course he had considered some required conditions for them as well.

Future in the Territory of Islam

In 1966, Ayatollah Khamenei at the age of 27 translated the book ‘Al-Mostaghbal Lehaza Al-Din’ written by Seyed Ghotb as ‘Future in the Territory of Islam’. This book was published in a condition that three years had passed from the events of 1963. Therefore naturally, the beginning of the translation is related to the time of after these events.

This book shows that how his policies in the intellectual and cultural activities have been after the event of 1963. in the book introduction he wrote: “There is no doubt for us that Islam by its power and natural influence will govern the world.”? It means even at that time he was not doubtful about this issue and he knew that eventually Islam will defeat the cruel regimes and will force the unwanted and cruel regimes to retreat. Of course at the continuation of his words he has mentioned that this future has some conditions, one of the condition is that all the people of the world should know Islam and to be aware of its rules and regulations.

He in the section of ‘Translator’s speech’ of the book has done an analysis which has existed in his analysis until now and that is that one of the reasons of underdevelopment and degeneration of Muslims is the role of colonial countries to rob the sources of Islamic world. Regarding this issue, he points out that the colonization after the Industrial revolution according to the needs that it had to the economic sources has plotted many plans and it has attacked many countries of the world. Also he states that there is a power in the Islamic countries which can prevent the invasion so such countries and that is the power of Islam. What has been their programs in order to remove this barrier? They have done two activities in this field: “Fighting against the armed ones and clerics”? and “Changing this Islam into a useless Islam”?; it means the interpretation of Imam Khomeini regarding this issue who has called it as an American Islam: “Therefore the best policy was that the abundant appearances and ceremonies of Islam to be preserved, but they would attack the revolution and religious percepts which are the reality of the religion and by this work to weaken the beliefs of people towards religion, so that the religion will be considered as something useless in their outlooks and the people to get indifferent regarding the events that occur around them.”?

He then wrote: "This scheme became operational in subtly. Gradually the effects of religious rituals were added. Affiliated mosques and religious circles were highlighted. People got dependent to the chanting of mottos and appearances, but in the parallel action, the public interest, spirit and truth, they depart from the rule of religious orders, Islamic principles were forgotten, and the exploding volcano that religion would shake, was cooled and turned off.”? And the follower of the religion that its Koran conveys it expresses the reality. This book which has more than 300 pages in fact is a narration regarding the role of Muslims in their own destiny and it is towards the thought line which has been mentioned in the book ‘Future in the Territory of Islam’. It seems that he has wanted to present a real manifestation of his work and that the Muslims should do them and indeed it could be considered as a marvelous sample as well, because it shows the role of colonization too; that what activities the Eastern India Company has done in India have been discussed cautiously in this book.

Also this book has indicated so well that the Muslims have been able to do many significant work and activities and to make their country free from the control of UK colonization. It is interesting to know that more than half of this book is a compilation and he himself in the introduction of the book has written: “Although I myself had decided to translate this book at the beginning, but after starting the work since in some cases the texts and reasonable notes related to the book were available, so I listed them and I stated them in the footer, regardless this issue that the reader could be confused, the situation of paging in terms of balance of text and sides would be unreasonable, so I preferred to place the notes in the text and to put what really is margin in the footer. That is why the book exited from the form of only translation and it was titled ‘Translation and Compilation’.

A report regarding the historical background and current situation of Mashhad seminary

The next book of Ayatollah Khamenei was titled ‘A report regarding the historical background and current situation of Mashhad seminary’ that was written in 1967, but it was not published.

Maybe when you read the book at first, you get surprised of the form of writing the book. The story of writing and publication of this book is somehow interesting. In the preamble of the book he has written ‘The thought of compiling the notes that have been ended up to writing this book were provided in 1967 by the persistence and follow-up a friend from the university students of Social Sciences from Tehran university. The religious research panel in that institute has attempted to search such a subject and one of the members and university students of Mashhad seminary has seen me and chosen me. Although I was not so serious in this field, but I accepted to study and became curious about this issue as a result this booklet was provided.

When he sent his notes to this institute, he was informed by martyr Mottahari that the chief of that institute is one of the agents of the regime and is accused of belonging to the mislead currents. That is why he decided not to continue the work. At the same time, he was informed that his sending booklet has been missed and that he should send another copy to the center. He regarding this issue wrote: “I thought that this work was a divine work and I got so delighted about this issue, now I had a logical work to give up continuing the work and by the pretext of not having another copy that was really accurate not to accept rewriting and in this case the work that had been done was forgotten.”?

Almost 18 years passed from this event so that during the time of his presidency, a young man referred to the Presidency office and he said: “I have a document of him that I will give to him only. He had given the copy of a few pages of this document to the authorities of the office and then they had given the pages to Ayatollah Khamenei. Therefore he had confirmed that they were the same notes.”?

He himself regarding that day has written: “The cultural and scientist guy who had brought the text one hour ago came to me with the original text and he said that I found this book in the confiscated library of Shah’s authorities; he was the hired chief of Kazayee (so why he had claimed that he had missed it?) And since I saw the name of you, I did not allow that it stays in the unknown place for longer period of time.”?
He regarding the contents of the book has written: “This text states the suffering and pains of an innocent and poor class of the society; A class of the society that under the most difficult situation has not been away from the revenging and pretext seeking eyes. It seems that all the power of the governing policies ought to be tested on this innocent, poor and pious creature. Therefore the rain of disaster would occur towards the seminary from different directions. Poverty and materialistic needs form one side, humbling and insulting of governors and all the persons who would play in the culture from the other side, not providing the environment for growth and enhancement of the talents that in some cases were extraordinary from one side and eventually the political pressure and in some cases tough and wild policies from the other side would intensify it.”?

He also continued: “No one knew what was passing in the seminary and in these half-damaged schools which ware dark too? From the appearance of the work would be understood very lower than what it really was. Not their poverty, not their lessons and not their fighting was known properly for others. In fact these words were the main motivation to write this book.

The peace of Imam Hassan (AS)

The book ‘The peace of Imam Hassan (AS)’ which is a translation of the book ‘Solh Al-Hassan’ written by Sheikh Razi Al Yasin and it was published for the first time in 1969. In this book Ayatollah Khamenei has said that the peace of Imam Hassan (AS) in terms of fighting and effects is not less than the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS) in the Ashura scene and after that he has continued and since some persons have considered the peace of Imam Hassan (AS) as a conservative, damaging and compromising action, by this book I have shown that this action itself was an uprising too.

The general plan of Islamic thought in Koran

The next book is ‘The general plan of Islamic thought in Koran’ which was published in 1975. Ayatollah Khamenei has started the preamble of the book as follows: “The plan of Islam is as social manner and it has some strong and united principles which supervise the collective live of humans and they are one of the most important needs of religious thought.”?

After that he has continued that: “The Islamic discourses and researches before this did not have these two significant characteristics.”? That is why in comparing Islam with other religions, Islam would seem weaker, because the other religions would present plans and programs.

Therefore he wrote this book after the event of 1963 with a strong belief that Islam must be under attention as the life program; that is why all the shortages must be compensated and one of the shortages is ‘A General Plan for this Program’. In the preamble of the book he has written has considered the practical steps for realization of this goal as follows: “At first the knowledge and Islamic thought system should get out of celibacy and pure subjectivity and the same as other social schools, it will supervise on the practical duties and specially the social life.”? Therefore it denies any kind of separation of religion from policy.

Secondly those thought issues of Islam should be studied rapidly and as a member of a unit. This point of him states the weakness which existed in the thought atmosphere of many of the religious writers of that time. They would choose some elements of Islam and they would work on them, but they would not be able to make a connection between them and to present Islam as comprehensive plan. In order to understand this meaning, Koran is the most complete and reliable document which we can rely to that and no wrong thing is sourced from that and in that the source of enlightenment is clear and of course we have been demanded to move towards it.”?

At the continuation of his compilation he mentioned that in this pamphlet which is a summary of several speeches “It is attempted that the most important thought pillars of Islam to be searched from the most constructive and live dimensions towards the transparent verses of Koran.”? The position of this book is very valuable among the books of Ayatollah Khamenei. I believe that the speeches and statements of him during current time in the position of leadership are mostly in the framework of this plan rather than monitoring the daily issues.

Some speeches about patience

The book ‘Some speeches about patience’ was released in 1975 and it is the result of his speeches regarding the issue of patience in Karamat Mosque of Mashhad city.

At the first pages of the book has been mentioned that a slang understanding of patience is tolerating the difficulties. He has said that this understanding is wrong and then he has continued that this mean ‘When in a society the issue of oppression, zealess and captive of corruption agents are stated it could be considered the biggest tool for the oppressors and cruel persons and the most important reason for underdevelopment and degeneration is corruption.’

After that he has stated when we search patience in the Koran verses and narrations, we can observe that it has a meaning which is absolutely on the contrary.
Patience in a misfortune society is the key of all the fortunes and happiness. He describes patience by using religious sources as follows: “Human resistance in the evolution way, against the evil motivations, creation of corruption and degeneration.”? After that he expresses an example in this field that a mountain climbing group face with many internal obstacles when they want to reach the peak such as indolence, fear, disappointment and many external obstacles such as rock, wolfs, thistle and high heights. Any person who resists in this way which is full of trouble and to continue his way, he has had patience.

You should pay attention that that when these speeches have been mentioned, they have been expressed in 1975. It means these speeches have been coincided with the beginning of a new era from the SAVAK activities for the purpose of suppressing, detaining, persecuting, torturing and martyrdom of many of the revolutionary militants. In an era that the joint committee of anti-corruption expanded its activities and they had seriously believed that fighting has no benefit anymore. But he in this book has presented an active, positive and fighting and resistance meaning of patience.

Scientific activities at the peak of political fighting

In the preamble of the book he has written has considered the practical steps for realization of this goal as follows: “At first the knowledge and Islamic thought system should get out of celibacy and pure subjectivity and the same as other social schools, it will supervise on the practical duties and specially the social life.”? Therefore it denies any kind of separation of religion from policy. Secondly those thought issues of Islam should be studied rapidly and as a member of a unit. This point of him states the weakness which existed in the thought atmosphere of many of the religious writers of that time. They would choose some elements of Islam and they would work on them, but they would not be able to make a connection between them and to present Islam as comprehensive plan. He would say that we must draw a conclusion a comprehensive and multilateral plan from religion as complete ideology without ambiguity which has appropriate dimensions with the multi-dimensional life of humans. The other important thing that he has pointed to are the damages in the thought system of thinkers and scientists; that some of the Islamic writers of that time would be encouraged and admired by Ayatollah Khamenei despite of fighting and justice seeking aspects, but in addition to the Islamic learning, but they would be affected by personal preferences and comments as well. He expresses this note as follows: “The one that deduction and understanding of Islamic principles, documents and main texts of religion, to be origin and source, not the preferences and personal comments or the savings of the mind and thought and that…rather than the result of researches and analysis to be honestly Islamic and not any other things. In order to understand this meaning, Koran is the most complete and reliable document which we can rely to that and no wrong thing is sourced from that and in that the source of enlightenment is clear and of course we have been demanded to move towards it.”? At the continuation of his compilation he mentioned that in this pamphlet which is a summary of several speeches “It is attempted that the most important thought pillars of Islam to be searched from the most constructive and live dimensions towards the transparent verses of Koran.”? The position of this book is very valuable among the books of Ayatollah Khamenei. I believe that the speeches and statements of him during current time in the position of leadership are mostly in the framework of this plan rather than monitoring the daily issues. Some speeches about patience The book ‘Some speeches about patience’ was released in 1975 and it is the result of his speeches regarding the issue of patience in Karamat Mosque of Mashhad city. At the first pages of the book has been mentioned that a slang understanding of patience is tolerating the difficulties. He has said that this understanding is wrong and then he has continued that this mean ‘When in a society the issue of oppression, zealess and captive of corruption agents are stated it could be considered the biggest tool for the oppressors and cruel persons and the most important reason for underdevelopment and degeneration is corruption.’ After that he has stated when we search patience in the Koran verses and narrations, we can observe that it has a meaning which is absolutely on the contrary. Patience in a misfortune society is the key of all the fortunes and happiness. He describes patience by using religious sources as follows: “Human resistance in the evolution way, against the evil motivations, creation of corruption and degeneration.”? After that he expresses an example in this field that a mountain climbing group face with many internal obstacles when they want to reach the peak such as indolence, fear, disappointment and many external obstacles such as rock, wolfs, thistle and high heights. Any person who resists in this way which is full of trouble and to continue his way, he has had patience. You should pay attention that that when these speeches have been mentioned, they have been expressed in 1975. It means these speeches have been coincided with the beginning of a new era from the SAVAK activities for the purpose of suppressing, detaining, persecuting, torturing and martyrdom of many of the revolutionary militants. In an era that the joint committee of anti-corruption expanded its activities and they had seriously believed that fighting has no benefit anymore. But he in this book has presented an active, positive and fighting and resistance meaning of patience. Scientific activities at the peak of political fighting What we mentioned above is only a brief section of the books and activities of Ayatollah Khamenei during that time. The booklets and other books have been in this field such as the Claims against Western Civilization, Honest Leader, The Dept of Prayers and other written texts which are richer and more precious. Some of these works have not been republished and some of them have not been published at all. The grand Ayatollah Khamenei did activities while he was arrested for six times during that time and he was banished as well. In fact he experienced a mysterious life while he was always prosecuted. He would follow up his scientific and thought activities under such difficult situation. In a situation that he himself says: “Even I would be controlled in the library by the agents belonging to SAVAK and his notes would be checked too.”? The End
