When All Baathists' Calculations Went Wrong

According to Fars News Agency's Sacrifice and Martyrdom reporter, General Seyed Mohammad Bagher Zadeh, the head of the Honoring Foundation of the 31st Anniversary of Khorramshahr Freedom today in a press conference in addition of congratulating the birthday anniversary of her Excellency Fatemeh Zahra (S) and woman’s day declared: “Today is coincided with the second phase of the military operation ‘Beitol Moghadas’; this military operation had some special features, but the pounding and lightning feature of the military operation ‘Beitol Moghadas’ caused that the Iraqi Baathist forces not to be able to prevent the advancement of Iranian Islamic forces and this feature ruined the calculations of Saddam’s forces.”?

He continued: “The speed of Iranian war veterans and the pounding of the operation caused that the fighting desire in the Saddam’s army to be weakened so much and more than 19000 Iraqis to be arrested and the documents and memories of that time indicates this reality for us.”?

The Head of the Foundation for Preservation of Holy Works and Values of Holy Defense outlined: “For example on May 1, 1982 when the commander of the 4th military company from the 1st battalion of the brigade 94 of the Iraqi armored Army 6 received the negative responses from the Senior Headquarters, he demanded his forces: “Everyone is free to do anything that he wants, I don’t command anyone anymore; even you can give up fighting and to be surrendered by the Iranian forces!”? In fact this action means the reduction of fighting desire of a military unit.

He outlined: “The available documents that was obtained by the Iraq prisoners at that time indicates that the Duty Sergeant ‘Jasem Mohammad Gheitan’ a few days after the fall of Khorramshahr was captured by Iranian forces and he declared that the commander of their battalion had said: “Saddam Hussein is very sad because of Khorrramshahr’s capture by Iranian forces and Saddam had said ‘If I knew that the situation will be like this’, I would demand retreating so quickly.”?

General Bagher Zadeh notified: “The people of Iraq mocked the claim that Saddam Hussein demanded they retreat as a tactical act and they did not accept that it was a tactical retreating at all.”?

He added: “The pressure on the Saddam’s Army caused the Jordanian prisoners who had been condemned to hard tortures to be freed and to be forcefully used as Saddam’s forces; according to the documents available regarding the Saddam’s Army forces, it can be said that these forces were so happy when they were retreating and all of them would say that the war has been finished, but when they arrived in the international borders, they were demanded to defend and this demand made them disappointed as sad.”?

The chief of the Honoring Foundation of the 31st Anniversary of Khorramshahr Freedom stated: “The Pounding and lightning feature of the military operation ‘Beitol Moghadas’ caused that the Iraqi Baathist forces not to be able to prevent the advancement of Iranian Islamic forces and this feature ruined the calculations of Saddam’s forces, so the power of Iraqis was ruined practically by this operation.”?

He continued: “According to this, through a letter, Major ‘Khalil Ibrahim’ that was the commander of Khorramshahr war zone reported to a superior unit that the Iranian forces from Kut Sheikht to Salmaniyeh located in eastern Karoon river along with the passing bridges have crossed the river and they have been classified in anti-tank groups; in fact the enemy has noticed and declared that the movements of Iranian forces on the Ahvaz-Khorramshahr road has been increased.”?

General Bagher Zadeh outlined: “What happened that the enemy was not able to stand against Iranians with many facilities and equipments? and at 9:00 o’clock in the morning of May 10, 1982 to Iraqi Sokhu aircrafts bombarded the rifle pits of the headquarters and brigade 419 which would be commanded by the Army 5 of Iraq; 20 forces of Sadam’s regime were killed and one of the Saddam’s forces shot down one of the aircrafts of Saddam and based on the declaration of the Iraqi duty sergeant major, the second aircraft was shot down as well.”?

He notified: “During this operation, the level of causalities of Saddam’s army was so much in a way that the students of the cities of Basra and Zobei had been mobilized to help the injured patients and many physicians from Jordan and Egypt had been dispatched to Iraq to treat them as well.”?
