Memories of a Fighter from Kurdistan:

Memories of Martyr Nahid Fatehi Karjou as Related by her Father

Navideshahed: The neighbor girl saw the doll and she started crying and she said that she loves the doll so much, but her father can not buy that doll for her the same as her; When Nahid came to the house, that doll was not with her anymore.

According to Basij News Agency, martyr Nahid Fatehi Karjou was born in 1965 in Sanandaj city. By the beginning of revolution movements of people, Nahid joined the huge population of revolutionary people. She was one of the active members of Kurdistan girls who would take part in the protests against Shah’s regime.

After the victory of Islamic Revolution and the beginning of conflicts between anti-revolutionary militants in Kurdistan regions, she started her close cooperation with the Army forces and Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

Nahid would mostly spend her time in reading the religious books and the holy book ‘Koran’. Also she liked to do social activities as well.

Nahid got sick at the beginning of winter in 1981 and she referred to a health center located in Sanandaj city and she was arrested by the anti-revolutionary militants. She was tortured by the anti-revolutionary militants for 11 months. They had shaved her hair and they had removed her finger nails as well. They had done this crime in order to insult Imam Khomeini, but she preferred martyrdom instead of hardship. Nahid Fatehi Karjou was only 16 years old when she was arrested by the anti-revolutionary militants and she was martyred.

Mohammad Fatehi Karjou, the father of this martyr expresses a memory regarding his martyred daughter as follows:

Nahid was not the same as other children from her childhood. When she was a little girl, we had been so surprised and she would ask many questions. Her curiosity had made everyone confused. She would ask questions even about obvious things; it seemed that she liked to get knowledge about everything. She would continue her questions in a way that in some cases we could not find a reply for her questions.

She was a brave girl since the time that she was a little child and she would understand the meaning of affection and kindness so well in a way that her mother had been so surprised too. Each time that she would play a game with children, she would take all the fruits and foods to her friends in order to share with them and to eat fruits with them.

I was an employee of gendarmerie and I would do commissions so much. Once I bought an expensive doll for her. She took her doll outside to allow her friends to play with it. When she returned, the doll was not with her. Her mother asked where she had put the doll? You took it with yourself outside and when you returned, you did not bring it back. Nahid said: I gave it to my friend to play with it, her mother got sad and she returned the doll the same evening and she said that her fiend saw the doll and she started crying and she said that she loves the doll so much, but her father can not buy that doll for her the same as that person; so my heart ached for her. She was a nice girl. I gave my own doll to her and I asked her not to damage the doll at all. She also played with the doll and she returned it to me.

***
She had a friendly and good relation with the children. Her mother was always worried about her. She was worried about her because of her behavior and she thought that her daughter might be deceived. Every person has a close friend, but she was the friend of many persons and she had a friendly relation with most of them based on her personality.

She was only four to five years old when she would wear veil. She would wear veil and pick a little basket and go outside. It seemed that she had become a woman several years! The neighbors would stop her and they would ask her if they give her veil to them? And Nahid would say no, because it is big for you!

***
She really liked to be clean most of the times. She was a great girl since the time that was too young. Someday she had opened the yard gate and she had wrapped her veil around it and she had sat down in the framework of the door and she would look at the alley. The children were playing games in the alley; I told her why don’t you go and play a game with them? she said: Last night it was rainy, the ground is full of mud and my clothes will be dirty.

Other parents had to force their children to brush their teeth, but she would voluntarily brush her teeth without being forced. The children called her obsessive.
