Grand Cleric Approves Syria Reforms, Rejects Foreign Interference

Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, Senior jurisprudent met with Ghazanfar Roknabadi, Iran's ambassador in Beirut receiving a report on the latest events in Lebanon and Syria and stressed the necessity of reforms as well as an end to violence in Syria.

Ayatollah Makarem in this meeting underscored maintaining stability and security in Syria as an important country for resistance against the Zionist regime and said, "The enemy intends to collapse the resistance and once its intention realizes, the attacks would head for Lebanon, Iraq and Iran."

He referred to distortion of the truths about the Muslim world and underlined the importance of projecting transparent information on the changes in the Middle East and said "It is important that the truth about Syria events are analyzed because the media in the foreign countries provide exaggerated and biased views on the issue."

The senior cleric also expressed his support for reforms and rejected the violence from both conflicting sides in Syria and said," We defend right demands of the people in all regional countries from Bahrain, Yemen, Saudi Arabia to Syria but we object interference of the foreign forces in their domestic affairs."

"The West and the US have shown their dishonesty regarding the Islamic Awakening and the changes in the region," said the cleric," the West has proved that it only thinks of its interests but it is a great puzzle why some neighboring countries have been cheated by their plots in maintaining an anti Islamic stance to back the enemies."
