December 30 Epic

Navideshahed: The history of revolutions is full of ups and downs which sometimes speed up the move towards the main ideals of the revolution; while at other junctures revolutions suffer decadence and collapse from inside.

The Islamic revolution of Iran has been one of the revolutions that has faced a lot of events and difficulties after its victory in 1979. But what astonishes analysts after three decades, is the stability and power of the revolution and the Islamic Republic of Iran which is considered today as a powerful and dynamic system.

Among the latest events in the life of the Islamic revolution were the incidents of the post presidential election in 2009. Some people who thought that as a result of vote rigging their rights were violated in the elections embarked on riot instead of resorting to legal ways. Despite the officials' elaboration and recounting of a part of the ballot boxes, opposing persons and groups took hostile measures under hollow pretexts and created some skirmishes putting the system into a domestic challenge. The concurrency of these unrests with foreign threats over Iran's nuclear issue turned into a serious danger for the country's national security.

It is quite clear that a system becomes vulnerable before the foreign powers once the internal troubles and foreign plots weaken the popular support and undermine the system’s legitimacy, so that the foreign powers come to the conclusion that the time is ripe for dealing a great blow. The post election political turmoil in Iran intermingled false and truth to the extent that it was hard to discern between them. The opponents did not merely protest against the manner of holding elections but, in compliance with foreign propaganda and brouhaha, they put distrust in the system and the officials especially weakening the leader at the top of their agenda. Destructive presence in the streets and insulting the religious values and sanctities further clarified the stances and beliefs of the rioters to the extent that they gradually lost popular support and moved away the guise of democracy and freedom seeking.

Desecration of the religious values and sanctities by the mutinous elements on the day of Ashura 1431 AH corresponding to December 27, 2009, revealed their open enmity against Islam; thus many people who till that date were assessing circumstances, found out that it was not the problem of presidency and who had won the election, but their main goal was to overthrow the Islamic system. Therefore, people found it vital to come to the scene widely to preserve the religion and the revolution's values. They considered this act as their religious duty and didn’t wait for the call of parties but millions of people poured to the streets and created the epic of December, 30, 2009.

Definitely, what led to the formation of such a great event were the perfect prudence, patience and insight of the leader in confronting this grave plot. Velayat-e Faqih or the leadership of the pious and Godwary jurisprudent is the vital core of the Islamic revolution. Since the beginning of the revolution, the leader, through his vigilance and bright vision, has always safeguarded the system and deterred both the internal and external stakes from harming the revolution.

During the post election events, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei managed the revolution in the best way and disclosed the stealth elements of enemy to the people. The leader clearly separated the truth from falsehood. Meanwhile, the enemy who tried to undermine the role of leadership in controlling the crisis and fomented the unrests realized that the status of Velayat-e Faqih is very lofty and powerful among the Muslim people of Iran so much so that it can nullify all plots. Moreover, the Islamic Republic of Iran is a popular system in which the participation of people is undeniable and praiseworthy.

Participation of people in the country's affairs and administering different affairs are some of the unique values among human societies.

Such a conscious and alert participation and feeling responsible against the social affairs by everybody enliven society and make it dynamic. The popular participation is the fundamental organ of a true Islamic government. Such a government is based on people's support. Actually the rule of God and religion is materialized once people accept such a power and rule. The Islamic Republic government was established in Iran after the 1979 referendum in which over 98 percent of people voted yes to the Islamic system.

The Iranian nation’s grand epic of December, 30, 2009 in which millions of people hoisted the banner of loyalty to the system, to the leader and to the revolution; displayed the most beautiful form of religious insight. This magnificent turn-out proved that in a truly religious government people always play an important and effective role. The glorious presence of people in several elections after the Islamic revolution is a clear example of their role. In the 10th presidential election of Iran in 2009, too, approximately 85 percent of the eligible people enthusiastically rushed to the ballot boxes and to manifest another wide popular support for the Islamic Republic system.

No one can charge the Islamic Republic system with being coercive and violent in which no attention is paid to the demands of people; conversely, it is the people who elect their officials freely and consciously.

Leader of the Islamic revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei termed the determining presence of the faithful and brave Iranian nation in the December, 30, 2009 epic as a manifestation of God's power and a lasting move in the revolution's history reiterating, “The domineering powers and the anti-religious movements who chant slogans against the system and the revolution are the same ones who had been for years arrayed against the late Imam Khomeini and the revolution; so understanding this indicator and truth people once again proved their determining presence in preserving the system and the revolution.”?

The leader noted that the will and struggle of the individuals pave the ground for making some of the historical days of the revolution as milestone, which in turn have been the starting point to create a great change among the Iranian nation as a result of insight, punctuality, recognizing the foes and striving. Lauding the Iranian people's vigilance, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “Even if we prostrate hundreds of times for the blessing of this nation’s vigilance, it is little.”?

The revolutionary presence of the Iranian people on December, 30, 2009 epic bewildered foreign media. The western media that would always release news on the small gatherings of opposition were astounded at the multi-million strong presence of the Iranian nation in support of the Islamic Republic system and the leader of the Islamic Revolution. They would never expect the Iranians to be so much united against the malicious opponents to defend the Islamic system and their wise leader. Therefore, adopting very passive stances, the leaders of the western regimes tried their best to decolour the fervent presence of the Iranian nation in the scene. Nonetheless, analyzing the December, 30 epic and the western media's misuse of Iran's domestic developments, the US daily New York Times in its editorial referred to a tangible truth and wrote: basically, to imagine that the Islamic Republic will explode from within is a false thought.

Referring to the false and biased propaganda of the foreign media on the December, 30 nationwide rally, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said, “With such propaganda, the western media actually admit the popular power of the Islamic Republic, for no government in the world can carry out such a massive national mobilization and bring millions of people to the streets. In the light of the late great Imam’s warm breath and the martyrs' self-sacrifice, people and government are considered a single reality and all the officials including me are just tiny drops in this vast ocean.”?
