The Unforgettable (15):

It was a Strange Operation

Navideshahed: Here is Khosro Abad. There was a secondary stream near us that the Arabs and the people from south of Iran would use the water of the stream for irrigation of their farms including their date palms. The water of this stream was a good place for our practices. In the autumn of 1986, at the end of December despite of the cold weather, we had to spend much time during the nights to do the military training, because the next military operation was so confidential. At 9 o’clock at night the war veterans of our battalion would wear divers’ uniforms and they would jump in the water.

It took three to four minutes for our bodies to adjust its temperature with the water stepped in. We needed to swim the width of the Arvand River and then we would come back.

When we would return it would be almost 12:00 o’clock at night. After changing our uniforms, we would sleep for two hours and we would wake up at 4:00 o’clock in the morning. When the prayer and mourning ceremonies would be finished, we would clean our place. On that day we collected the brushwood and burnt them. This photo was taken from us by Mr. Afshar.

It was 1986 before the military operation Karbala 4. Almost six days before the operation, we got on a truck and then we moved towards Khorramshahr. It lasted seven to eight years that we arrived to Khorramshahr. We stayed in Khorramshahr for one or two nights and then our military operation started against the enemy.

It was a strange military operation. Karammi, Ali Jawid Mehr, Imam Gholi, Ali Reza Atashgaran, Rahman Ebadi, Mirzayee, Zein Abadi and Shapour Abdi were the fighters who are seen in the photo near us; but they were martyred during the military operation ‘Karbala 4’. In can say that totally 14 war veterans can be seen in this photo were martyred.

The End
