5th Day of Muharram Mourning in Zaria, Africa

Navideshahed: The 5th day of Ashura: Genesis of Ashura continues. The Leader of the African Shia Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky continued to speak on the genesis of Ashura on the 5th of Muharram.

He spoke further on the Arab society which he said was predominantly characterized by taking pride in clan and tribal background which were the basis of one’s status in the Arab society.

Had it been that Arabs had a religion, this way life in the Jahiliyyah society could be considered as religion for them. There was also popular culture of vengeance to the extent that if a person was killed from a tribe, the tribe of the deceased would take a vengeance by killing a member of the other tribe, no matter the length of time it would take to get an opportunity to do so. The vengeance could also be taken on children and grand children.

After prophet was sent, the Arabs planned an onslaught on the Prophet and his followers; during the battle of badr the Arabs announced that every male was invited to fight the Prophet(SAWA). However, the Quraish then felt that if all men went out to fight the Prophet, the Banu bakar clan might seize the opportunity to clamp down on their women and children. So, this made the Quraish to contemplate. However, Iblis appeared to them in the form Leader of Banu Bakar and deceived them by saying that the fight against the Prophet was for all and as such they should not entertain any fear. This shows that tribal inclinations was the major concern.

Another popular incidence is the battle of Basus which took Arabs over hundred years all in the name of tribe or clan. The feeling of pride made each of the tribes and clans to wish that the Prophet emerged from it because of his highest standard of good qualities. The Jews too migrated to Madina with hope that the last messenger of Allah shall come from them. However, the lofty status of having prophet came from the Banu Hashim and this made other tribes, who were known of enmities amongst them, to have a strong hatrage of Banu hashim and promised to destroy this glory.

Thus, the holy prophet faced serious Arabs’s enmities from different aspects since the time he declared his mission. He was persecuted together with his relatives and his followers, which was the reason for the first migration of his companions to Habasha.

The persecutions continued up to the time the Arabs planned to kill him; this made the holy Prophet to migrate to Madina.

Leader of the Islamic Movement ended his speech here, after which mourning was performed followed by Dua Kumayl, Ziyara and closing prayers.

Earlier on, a drama show depicting the Ashura event was performed before the arrival of Sheikh Zakzaky.
