Martyr Moqaddam Lauded as Father of Iran's Anti-Warship Ballistic Missiles

Navideshahed: A top Islamic Revolution Guards Corps general said that Major General Hassan Moqaddam, who was martyred in the November 12 blast at an IRGC base near Tehran, founded Iran's program for producing highly-advanced ballistic missiles which can target enemy warships on the move.

Addressing a ceremony here in Tehran on Tuesday to commemorate the 17 personnel of the IRGC Self-Sufficiency Organization martyred in the November 12 blast, IRGC Lieutenant Commander Brigadier General Hossein Salami said martyr Moqaddam founded the technology for targeting moving warships with ballistic missiles.

He said General Moqaddam and his team worked very hard for several years and arranged and conducted several tests to develop the technology.

"Martyr Moqaddam continued working hard until one day he arranged a test which was strange to us because that missile hit the target with 100% precision (and we didn't expect it)," Salalmi said about Moqaddam who also was known as the engineer of Iranian missile capability.

Salami also pointed out that Martyr Moqaddam was the first in Iran to produce a radar-evading drone.

In recent years, Iran has made giant progress in missile production. In a recent case, the Iranian Armed Forces displayed the most modern home-made ballistic missiles during military parades here in Tehran in late September.

The most advanced long-range missile developed by Iran is Sejjil which is considered as the third generation of Iran-made long-range missiles.

Iran successfully tested second generation of Sejjil missiles and brought it into mass production last year.

The solid-fuel, two-stage Sejjil missile with two engines, is capable of reaching a very high altitude and therefore has a longer range than that of the Shahab 3 model.

The missile has boosted the Islamic republic of Iran's defense capabilities.
