
More than 29,000 children under 5 have been killed due to the drought and famine in the past three months in Somalia.
Ayatollah Hossein Noori Hamedani has voiced his sorrow over the natural disaster in the Muslim country of Somalia and urged Muslims all across the world to perform their “Islamic duty”? and rush to assist their Muslim brothers and sisters in Ramadan which is the month of the blessing of the Lord and Muslims are encouraged to feed the needy people.
The Ayatollah also has given the green light to allocate one third of the “Imam share”? [a portion allocated to jurisprudents as charity to help the poor] to the famine-hit people in Somalia.
On Saturday, Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi, also called for earmarking part of the charities granted to Imams to be paid for Somali victims.
In July, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei also paid some $US 20,000 to help Somalia.
