Watching Syrian TV Series “Al Hassan and Al Hussein”? is Haraam and Sinful

Navideshahed: Three top Iranian clerics have declared that watching the sacrilegious TV series “Al Hassan and Al Hussein”? is haraam.

Based on a report by Navideshahed, Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, Ayatollah Hossein Nuri Hamedani and Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani have asked their followers to avoid watching the series.

It is currently being broadcast by many Arab TV networks every night during the holy month of Ramadan.

Directed by Syrian filmmaker Abd al-Bari Abu al-Khair, “Al Hassan and Al Hussein”? shows Imam Hassan (AS) and Imam Hussein (AS) as having good relations with Muawiyah, the founder of the Umayyad dynasty of caliphs.

Al-Azhar also deemed the series sacrilegious and asked Egypt’s ruling military council to intervene to prevent the Syrian TV networks from broadcasting the series.

As a result, the Egyptian Ministry of Information asked their TV channels and networks to cancel the broadcasting the series.
However, the TV networks ignored Al-Azhar’s objections and began broadcasting the series.

Al-Azhar announced that it plans to sue the producers of the series for depiction of the family members of the Prophet Muhammad (S) and his companions.

An Al-Azhar law that was passed in the 1926 forbade the physical personification of the Prophet Muhammad (S), his family and companions.

El Tahrir, Alhayat Mosalsalat and several other Egyptian TV channels along with some Lebanese, Syrian, Tunisian, Moroccan, and Sudanese TV networks have begun broadcasting the series.

Yusuf al-Qaradawi, an Egyptian Islamic theologian, and several Syrian and Saudi Arabian religious figures who have approved the TV series are named in the series credits.
