Bibliography of Martyr and Martyrdom

This research has been conducted with the aim of identifying, organizing and presenting comprehensive bibliography about martyrs and martyrdom. With regard the basic meaning and concept of martyr and martyrdom, titles, information, sources, and the available works about martyr and martyrdom, the martyrs of Islam in its origin, martyrs of freedom and ideas, martyrs of Islamic Republic, and the forced war have been collected and organized. There is not a starting point for the books and information to be included in this research rather all the available information from the beginning to the end of the first three months of 1998.
The method of collecting data were visiting the resources themselves in libraries and investigating valid indices. Collecting information has been conducted in two ways:
1.Investigating books and theses
2.Journal Essays

The bibliography of martyrs and martyrdom has been prepared and organized on the bases of the family names and first names of the compliers and the name of people are documented on the bases of the index books of the well known authors and compilers of the documented indices where the names of the institutes and governmental organization are listed. In this bibliography 6050 entries have been included and the reference numbers are written at the beginning of each entry. The body of this bibliography includes five parts which are as follow:
1.Books: Here the title of those books which are mostly about martyr and martyrdom or relative subjects are introduced. At least the following information has been brought for each title: Reference number, the family name and the name of the author, the title of the book, place of publication, publisher, and date of publication.
2.A part of the book: In this part those theses have been mentioned which are about a page about martyr and martyrdom. At least the following information has been given on each title: Reference number, the family name of the author, the title of the text and the book, place of publication, publisher, and date of publication as well as the page or pages of these entries.
3.Theses: In this part 808 entries have been mentioned and it is attempted to introduce even those titles which have only a page about martyr and martyrdom. In this part those theses which are completely about martyr and martyrdom or a part of them are about this topic are mentioned. At least the following information has been given on each title: Reference number, the family name and the name of the researcher, the title of the theses, the name of the university, the name of the faculty, the name of the supervisor and date of publication.
4.Essays: At least the following information has been given on each title: Reference number, the family name and the name of the author, title of the essays, the name of the journal or magazine, year of publication, the number of the issue, and the page number (s).
5.Indices: Include the name of the institutes and people that have been organized alphabetically.
