Second Round of Parliament Elections:

Public Turnout Higher than 1st Round

Navideshahed: Head of Tehran's Elections Headquarter Safar Ali Baratlou announced that public participation in the second round of the ninth parliamentary elections in Tehran constituency is higher than the run-off votes of previous parliamentary elections in the capital.

"Voting in Tehran, Rey, Shemiranat and Islamshahr constituency has seen an increase compared with the run-off vote in the eighth parliamentary elections," Baratlou told FNA on Friday.

Earlier today, Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar had also predicted that the number of the people participating in the run-off vote today will be higher than the turnout in previous parliamentary elections in the country.

"Public participation is very high. In fact, we didn't expect such a massive turnout," Najjar said on Friday.

"People's presence at polling station in the early hours of the voting indicates that we are witnessing a higher public turnout in this round compared with the run-off votes in previous elections," he added.

Iranians on Friday began voting in the second round of the country's ninth parliamentary elections in Tehran and other cities across the country.

FNA dispatches said polling stations in Iran's capital city of Tehran are witnessing high public participation today despite the massive negative propaganda launched by the western media to dissuade the Iranian people from voting in the second round of parliamentary elections.

50 candidates are competing with each other once again to win one of the remaining 25 seats left for Tehran in the runoff elections being held today in the capital and a number of other cities throughout the country.
