Thousands of Pakistanis Hold Anti-US Demonstration

The protesters on Monday called on the government to withdraw from its alliance with the US in its so-called War on Terror and cut off all forms of relationship with Washington.

The protest rally, which was organized by the country's largest politico-religious party Jamat-e-Islami, was held in the Khyber agency close to Afghanistan border.

Chanting anti-US slogans, the demonstrators called their rulers collaborating with US-led forces as "traitors."

The protestors say the worsening security situation in Pakistan is a result of so-called war on terror in Afghanistan.

"The presence of Americans here is a big threat to peace of this region, before the US invasion of Afghanistan there was calm and peace and all the tribes both sides of the borders were living like brothers, the Americans are killing our innocent people and destroying their homes," a protester told Press TV.

Leaders of the party called on people to be aware of the fact that the supplies transported to US-led forces in Afghanistan can be used against Pakistan.

The strategic supply routes have been closed down since last November, when US-led airstrike killed 24 Pakistani troops, sparking massive anti-US protests across the country.

Monday's protest came days after the Obama administration's special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Marc Grossman, visited Islamabad to negotiate an agreement with Islamabad that could help reopen the supply routes.
