"Shahed Atigh" (Meaning Old Times Martyr) on Martyr Ayatollah Dastgheyb's Life

Navideshahed: ‘Old Times Martyr’ on the life of martyr Ayatollah Dastgheib was written by Ali Akbar Nour Abadi. The book has been released by the Islamic Revolution Documentation Center.

According to Navideshahed, the book has expressed the biography and conflicts of martyr Ayatollah Seyed Abdol Hussein Dastgheib in a simple language from the time he was born until martyrdom time.

Ayatollah Seyed Abdol Hussein Dastgheib was born 1909 in Shiraz city. His family was a religious and clergy family who were educated as well. His father Mohammad Taghi was in Karbala at the time of the bird of his son and since he had been born during the Ashura month, he named him Abdol Hussein.

Ayatollah Seyed Abdol Hussein Dastgheib lost his father at the age of 12. He went to Najaf to continue his religious education. He learnt lessons from some great characters and then he reached the stage of religious leadership. His political conflicts started from the time that Hijab was discovered; but the climax of fighting of this respectful martyr took place against Shah’s regime. In fact his political fighting began when the six bills of the parliament were stated. After that the movement of 1962 under the leadership of Imam Khomeini started.

He was detained on June 05 and he was banished to Tehran. In 1964, he was arrested for the second time and he was taken to Tehran and then he was imprisoned in Tehran city too. After a while he was banished once again. After his freedom, he had the responsibility of leading the people of Fars province. In 1977, the Shah’s regime agents had controlled him at his house, but when the revolutionary people of Fars province protested against this issue, the agents of Shah’s regime had to withdraw. After the brutal massacre of Shah’s regime on the 5th Day of Ramadan Month in Shiraz, the military government was announced and this great clergy was arrested and he was imprisoned in Tehran city.

After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, martyr Ayatollah Seyed Abdol Hussein Dastgheib was elected as a member of the Islamic Parliament for the people of Fars province. He was also appointed as the Friday Imam of Shiraz city as well according to the demand of Imam Khomeini. He was also the chief of Seminary of Fars Province. After the victory of the Islamic Revolution he also reopened the seminaries of Ghavm, Hashemiyeh and Astaneh located in Shiraz which had been shut down during Pahlavi’s regime for many years.

Eventually Ayatollah Seyed Abdol Hussein Dastgheib was martyred as a result of a bomb that had been installed by the anti-revolutionary militants on Friday, December 11, 1981 in one of the allies of Shiraz city as he was going to hold a Friday Prayer.

The book ‘Old Times Martyr’ related to the biography of martyr Ayatollah Dastgheib has been written by Ali Akbar Nour Abadi. The book was released in 2004 with the price of 700 Toman. The book was released by the Islamic Revolution Documentation Center in 3000 copies.
