Navideshahed Exclusive Interview with the Author of “I Am the Son of Wind”?

Majid Pour Vali, the author of “I am the son of wind”?: “The book is a narration of a story from Islamic Revolution times.”?

Navideshahed: “I am the son of wind”? is the martyr Ebrahim Afrasiyabi's story in revolution times. He became a martyr on the night of Islamic Revolution victory, while his four brothers became martyrs later on during Iran-Iraq war.

What you read below is an exclusive interview of the Navideshahed reporter with Majid Pour Vali Kalshotori:

Reporter: Mr. Pour Vali, how did you create the personality of Ebrahim?

Majid Pour Vali: The personality of Ebrahim was a real personality who was present during the revolution. He was martyred exactly a day before the Islamic revolution victory as it has been mentioned in the story too. His real name is Ebrahim Afrasiyabi whose four brothers were martyred later during the Iran-Iraq war era. Before writing this book I had worked on a biography that was regarding a mother whose five children had been martyred. Ebrahim was one of the sons that of course I had focused on his personality and presence in the story and the rest contents are expressed according to my own imagination.

Reporter: What was the reason for choosing satire for writing this book?

Majid Pour Vali: I felt that a characteristic such as Ebrahim Afrasiyabi has the potential to become a complete story. It was not good if we had not paid attention to this everlasting characteristic. I thought it is really useful to express his personality to the teenagers. Now since I wanted to create some interesting issues for this story, I chose satire to make the children and teenagers remember this story forever. Usually at these ages, the children like to laugh and they like to read funny materials and watch funny films too. Maybe satire was the only narration which could assure the success of the book practically.

Reporter: Please say about the atmosphere of the book personality?

Majid Pour Vali: The adolescence of Ebrahim was not too much different from my own adolescence. The atmosphere is the same as what it was for me. I could remember Tehran, its alleys, school and the school mischief…Indeed all of these issues were in my mind, so didn’t have so many problems in transferring these issues into the life of Ebrahim.

Reporter: How did you imagine the martyrdom moment of Ebrahim?

Majid Pour Vali: The mother of Ebrahim had explained everything so well in the biography that I had written in this field. Maybe if a writer or author to have a little concerns regarding the valuable and revolutionary issues, of course it needs the ability and skills of story writing, transferring the above imaginations is not so difficult. In my opinion if a writer to have belief in something, he/she can write that story in the best mode possible. But if a work to be based on order or force that work will never be as good as it should be. During the time that I would write stories, I had full beliefs in the reality and messages and ambitions of Ebrahim and this issue would help me to write the story better and easier.

Reporter: It seems that the names and places have been chosen symbolically, for example the name of Zeinab is a symbol of her Excellency Zeinab (Peace be upon her), can you explain it more?

Majid Pour Vali: Of course the names that have been chosen for this story are not selected without any reasons. A skillful writer has a reason for anything that occurs in the story. One of the things that the writer must pay attention to it is the names that he/she chooses in the story. Regarding the characteristic of her Excellency Zeinabl (peace be upon her) I should say that I have chosen her name because I have so much passion and respects for this great lady. So whenever I want to highlight the good characteristics of someone, I use the personality and characteristics of her Excellency Zeinab.

Reporter: How much did you use the memories in writing the book?

Majid Pour Vali: More than 80 percent of the contents of the story have been expressed according to my own imaginations. I have written the personality of Ebrahim and the procedure of his martyrdom and his martyrdom day based on reality. The procedure of jokes and the types of jokes, dialogues, places and many other things have not occurred in the real world of Ebrahim. I as a fictionist can use all the tools possible for the purpose of conveying the message of stories. Imaginations are the main factors for writing fictions and stories. But the centrality of this imagination is the personality of Ebrahim that was something real. Indeed I wrote all the things about the days that he lived in the alleys of this neighborhood and the day that he was martyred as a national champion.

Reporter: What is the peak point of the book? Which section of the book we can read it?

Majid Pour Vali: Maybe we can say that the peak point of the story exist in the final pages of the book. Indeed the martyrdom moment of Ebrahim and when his mother sees her son’s dead body is the peak point of the story.

Reporter: What are your unsaid things for this interview?

Majid Pour Vali: I think writing fictions and stories for Ahl Beit (Peace be upon them) and writing story regarding the reality of Shiites beliefs has been forgotten and it can be considered as a great loss.

It should be noted that the book “I’m son of wind”? has been published by Shahed Publication for the teenagers. This book has been penned by Majid Pour Vali Kalshotori in 85 fully colorful pages. Also some designs from Najmeh Setudeh have been used for this book as well.

At the beginning of this book we can read: “Even the jinn would not believe that Ebrahim as a 13-year-old boy to be the faster runner of the world. To be so fast that even competes with wind. On that day that he outstripped the wind, he became the champion of the world…”?

The book “I’m son of wind”? has been written by Majid Pour Vali Kalshotori and photography of Najmeh Sotudeh. It was published by Shahed Publication in 3000 copies with the price of 18000 Rials.
