Persian Gulf to be shed with flowers to commemorate Vincennes victims

TEHRAN, (SCIB) - The waters of Persian Gulf are shed with flowers to commemorate the 290 passengers martyred as the US army shot down the Iran Air plane on its way to Dubai 19 years ago.

On July 3, 1988, the aircraft flying IR655 was deliberately shot down by the U.S navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes between Bandar Abbas and Dubai, ,martyring all 290 passengers and crew aboard. A while later, however, American authorities decorated the commander of this warship with a medal of valor, in an obvious attempt to insult the Iranian nation.
