Navideshahed: Iranian Vice President Lotfollah Forouzandeh says Tehran’s hosting of the 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit showed that the country can be trusted at an international level.

Forouzandeh described the resolution of the summit as a new discourse for the world saying that Iran has established a general trust through holding the NAM summit and the majority of participants agreed that Iran can be trusted and play an important role at the international level.

“After visiting Iran and observing for themselves, the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) realized that what the media of the hegemonic system say about Iran and its situation is far from reality and the effectiveness of sanctions claimed by the western countries is a big lie,”? he said.

The Iranian official referred to the western media’s claim about Iran’s political isolation and poor diplomatic relations, saying that “holding the NAM summit and the presence of the member countries showed the West’s lies and proved them to the world.”?

The 16th NAM Summit was wrapped up in the Iranian capital on August 31, with the member states passing a final resolution, which included over 700 clauses.

The final resolution expressed support for Iran’s nuclear energy program, rejected the United States’ unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic, and called for greater efforts to support the Palestinian cause.

The need to combat Islamophobia and racism throughout the world as well as global nuclear disarmament were some of the other key issues mentioned in the document.

NAM, an international organization with 120 member states, is considered as not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. It represents nearly two-thirds of the UN members.
