Leader Praises Iranian Paralympians

Navideshahed: Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has praised Iranian athletes for their outstanding performance at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

In a message on Sunday, Ayatollah Khamenei thanked all athletes who brought happiness to the Iranian nation during the international games. Iran finished the 2012 Paralympic Games with 24 medals, standing in the 11th place of the tournament.

On the final day on Sunday, Iran’s seven-a-side football team defeated Brazil 5-0 in a third place playoff at the Olympic Park to pocket the country’s last medal in the London Paralympics.

Iran grabbed 10 gold medals, seven silver, and seven bronze medals in the event.
In the previous Paralympics in Beijing, Iran stood in the 22nd place with five golds, six silvers, and three bronze medals.

Iranian athletes participated in archery, athletics, cycling, five-a-side football, seven-a-side football, goalball, judo, powerlifting, shooting, swimming, table tennis, sitting volleyball, and wheelchair tennis.
