Basij Commander-in-Chief:

Western Threats Foiled by NAM Leaders' Presence in Tehran

Navideshahed: Commander of Iran's Basij (volunteer) force Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi underlined on Sunday that participation of the Non-Aligned Movement leaders in the NAM summit in Tehran thwarted enemies' plots and threats against the Islamic Republic.

"The NAM leaders foiled the West's threats and negative propaganda against Iran through their participation in the NAM summit," said Naqdi on Sunday.

"The US and the Zionist regime still think that the whole world is fearful of them and they imagine that they can still have dominance over the world, this is while the conditions of the contemporary world has changed and they should gradually accept the realities," he added.

In relevant remarks on Saturday, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with President of Guinea Bissau Sheriff Namajo stressed that the NAM can defuse the western sanctions against the members of the bloc.

"If the NAM members regulate vast cooperation within the framework of the Movement, the bullying powers' attempts to boycott and pressure the independent countries will be foiled," Ayatollah Khamenei said during the meeting in Tehran yesterday.

"The hegemonic powers try to induce that any resistance against them is impossible, but the NAM members can prove that this is wrong," he added.

The meeting was held after the 16th NAM summit in the Iranian capital, Tehran, held from August 26 to 31. At the Tehran summit, Iran received the presidency of the grouping.

NAM, which is comprised of some 120 member and 17 observer states, is an international organization of states considering themselves not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. NAM is the largest grouping of countries outside of the United Nations.

During the 6 days of holding the conference, the Iranian officials held meetings with the heads of states and important leaders of different countries attending the conference on different regional and international issues as well as the bilateral relations.

NAM member states represent nearly two-thirds of the United Nations' members and comprise 55% of the world population, particularly countries considered to be developing or part of the Third World.
