The Islamic Republic of Iran celebrated its 32nd anniversary, and massive celebrations were held across the country.
In a two-day nationwide referendum held on 30th and 31st of March 1979 and just a few months after the victory of the Islamic Revolution under the leadership of Imam Khomeini, 98.2% of Iranians showed that they wanted the monarchical system to change to an Islamic Republic.
As a result, on April 1, 1979 Iran was declared an Islamic Republic, and was given a new official name - the Islamic Republic of Iran.
