Iranian Parliament Speaker:

West Lies about Peace, Democracy

Navideshahed: IRI’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said on Monday that the West’s instrumental use and hollow claims of supporting democracy and peace is the biggest problem the world is facing with now.

He made the remark while addressing the 7th General Assembly Meeting of Islamic Inter Parliamentary Union in Palembang, Indonesia.

Referring to the wave of Islamic Awakening in the world, he stressed that the revolutions in Islamic states are taking place to topple dictators and establish democracy and justice while wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon were triggered by the West and the Zionist regime on the pretext of establishing peace.

Larijani noted that establishment of peace and democracy can not be materialized by use of tanks and warplanes but rather they are the outcome of the will of nations.

Meanwhile in a meeting with his Malaysian counterpart Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, Larijani said the US is making instrumental use of human rights issue.

Stressing expansion of ties between the two countries, he said there are attempts to sow discord among Islamic sects.

He further pointed to the peaceful coexistence of followers of divine religions in Iran and said the followers of different sects live peacefully in Iran far from any extremism.

The Malaysian speaker for his part said his nation respected Iranians and looked at them as role-models.

He also maintained that recent uprisings in the region were inspired by Iran's Islamic revolution and appreciated the country's stance on the issue of Palestine.
