President Downgraded West Sanctions on IRI CB as Useless

Navideshahed: President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday downgraded the Western governments sanctions on Central Bank of Iran as efforts in vain.

The president made the remarks at inaugural ceremony of 14 development and industrial projects in the southeastern city of Sarcheshmeh, Kerman province.

The president said that the US claims sanctions on CBI is a big blow to Iran’s economy but 'we say it is about 30 years CBI has cut ties with the United States, therefore, it will not work and it is in fact a useless initiative.'

Pointing to European Union’s sanctions on Iran, he said Europe is not that much extensive land in the world and Iran’s total foreign trade is 200 billion dollars, and only 24 billion dollars of which is with Europe.

“Once about 90 percent of Iran’s trade was with Europeans but nowadays it is about 10 percent, so, we did not voluntarily cut ties with them and they will be the real loser from their unilateral sanctions,“ he said.

On the profiteering in Iranian black market, the President said some brokers and dealers illegally and treacherously tried abortively to shock Iran’s gold and foreign currency market and the Western governments claimed the shock was the consequence of their sanctions, but it was a big lie because CBI has enough gold and foreign currencies to feed the market for about three years.
