Iranian Students Protest against Azeri Government Anti-Islamic Policies

Navideshahed: The Basij volunteer at Tehran University and Masumiyya School in Qom have criticized policy towards Shiite religion in the Azerbaijan Republic.

The statement accuses the Azerbaijani government of pursuing an anti-religious policy by closing Shia mosques and arresting Shiite Islamic scholars and leaders, although 92% of the population is Shia Muslim, According ISNA.

“The Azerbaijani government should learn the lesson of history, and look at Iran’s history from 1963 till the Islamic revolution in 1979. Look at the destiny of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Hosni Mubarak, Ben Ali, Abdulla Salih and the others,”? the statement said, referring to the fall from power of the shah of Iran and the leaders of Egypt, Tunisia and Yemen.

The Basij statement calls on the Iranian Foreign Ministry to strengthen diplomatic measures to protect the rights of Azerbaijani Shia Muslims and obtain the release of imprisoned Islamists.
