Seminar on Women's Rights in Islam Held in Indonesia

Navideshahed: A seminar on women's rights in Islam was held in the city of Yogyakarta in cooperation with Iran Culture Center in Indonesia, State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga and Roshanfekr Institute.

According to the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), Rabbani, Iran cultural attaché in Jakarta addressed the opening ceremony of the seminar noting the important role of women as half of population in Islamic countries, their influence on intellectual and cultural events and their capabilities to play roles in current developments in the Muslim world, their status in society and the problems of imitating Western culture, IQNA reported.

Referring to the most comprehensive and precise rules regarding womens issues in Islam, he called upon Iranian and Indonesian intellectuals to boost cooperation to better clarify the Islamic legal system for women.

Also speaking at the program, Ms. Ruhafza, Tahere Nazari and Fereshtekhu, Iranian university lecturers, researchers and activists in womens affairs as well as Dr. Supraja, professor of sociological studies at Gadjah Mada University talked about women in Islamic jurisprudence, cyberspace, family and the role of Muslim women in preventing cyberspaces harmful effects in family and society, duty of Muslim woman in Islamic thought and legal and social challenges that Indonesian Muslim women face.

Status of woman in the West, instrumental view towards women in the West, family problems in the West, results of imitating intellectual and cultural systems of the West, and women achievements in Iran were also investigated at the seminar.
