Tehran Solemnizes Rabbani Martyrdom

Navideshahed: Tehran solemnizes the martyrdom of the former Afghan President, Burhanuddin Rabbani.

Rabbani , also a member of the World Forum for Islamic Schools of Thought Integration, was assassinated in an explosion by Taliban in his home.

Several dignitaries, Afghan nationals residing in Tehran took part at the morning ceremony.

Afghanistan Ambassador in Tehran, Dr. Obeidollah Abid, in an address discussed the way Islamic Movements were formed in Afghanistan.

He also eulogized Ahmad Shah Massoud, the Afghan commander who played a key role in driving Soviet forces out of Afghanistan.

Rabbani was the leader of Jamiat-e Islami Afghanistan (Islamic Society of Afghanistan). He's also one of the earliest founders and movement leaders of the Mujahideen during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the late 1970's.
