The Wish That Came True

(By General Gholamreza Aqakhani)
We were fellow students at military college and through he was one grade ahead of me, we had very close and good relations.
At that time I remember once the monthly magazine of the army had sent reporters to interview the second and third year students.
Questions such as why they had chosen to join the army and what positions they wanted to have in the army, or why they wanted to reach those posts.
Each of the students said something. In those days most of the students wanted to choose infantry field and called it the bride of the battle fields. But martyrs Sattary in answering the reporter said, "I want to be the commander of the Air Force". When the reporter asked about the motive, he answered, exactly as such, "The power of any country lies on the power of its army. And the power of any army lies on the power of its Air Force". The reporter asked. "What would you do if you were appointed the commander of the Air Force?" He answered.
"I would from a powerful Air Force capable of manufacturing its own aircraft in the country."

General Sattary uttered these sentences when he was not over 19 and it was not certain to which of the three forces of the army he would be sent.
After finishing the college both of us were sent to the Air Force.
Seventeen years passed and eventually martyr Sattary, due to his capabilities and bravery during the war was appointed commander of the Air Force.
He summoned some of the old fellow students, and said, "I had promised myself to organize a powerful Air Force in Iran. It is the hard time of the war days and we should struggle in a way for our hero nation to observe our presence in the battle fields and be encouraged. We should move fast. Time is flying".
