NAM condemns bomb attacks targeting the Iranian cultural center

Navideshahed- The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has strongly condemned the two recent bomb attacks targeting the Iranian cultural center in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, calling for a serious fight against terrorism.

In a statement released on Friday, NAM denounced all forms of terrorism, saying the scourge constitutes a menace to global peace and security.
The organization called for an all-out campaign against terrorism within the framework of the UN Charter, voicing support for the Lebanese government’s bid to restore security and stability to the country.
NAM also called on Lebanon to bring the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks to justice.
NAM, an international organization with 120 member states, is considered as not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. It represents nearly two-thirds of the UN members.
At least five people were killed and several others injured in two bomb attacks in the south of Beirut on Wednesday. The al-Qaeda-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades claimed responsibility for the bombings.
The Lebanese capital has been repeatedly hit by similar terrorist attacks in recent months.
Last November, twin bomb attacks outside the Iranian Embassy in the Lebanese capital also killed 25 people and injured more than 150. Iran’s Cultural Attaché to Beirut Hojjatoleslam Ebrahim Ansari was among the dead. The Abdullah Azzam Brigades also claimed responsibility for the bombings.
The group’s Saudi leader Majid al-Majid was arrested in early January, but died days later in a Lebanese hospital.
Lebanese security forces have detained a militant suspected of being a leading figure in a Takfiri terrorist group which has targeted Iranian interests in Beirut over the past months.
Hassan Abu Afleh was detained last Saturday, but his arrest had remained secret until after investigations were completed. He is suspected of recruiting bombers and assembling car bombs for the Abdullah Azzam Brigades.
