IIPU Meeting to Enhance Muslim Unity: Iran’s Parliament Speaker

Navideshahed- Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Monday expressed the hope that the upcoming conference of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU) would lead to the enhancement of Muslim unity.

Addressing a session of the conference’s general committee on Monday, Larijani said the IIPU conference is an opportunity for the participants to discuss Muslim world issues.
He referred to the issue of Palestine and described it as a major challenge facing the Muslim nations.
Larijani further stressed that Islamic states have great potentials in different fields, including science and technology.
He urged participants in the conference to work for the development of scientific and technological strategies for Muslims countries.
The ninth meeting of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union will be officially launched in a ceremony on February 18, where Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to be the keynote speaker.
44 countries have announced preparedness to attend the IIPU Conference. Over 25 parliament speakers will be among the participants at the event in Tehran.
Established in 1999 based on an initiative by Iran, the IIPU is the second largest inter-parliamentary body in the world after the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
