Ramadhan in Captivity:

When Congregation Namaz Turned to Individual One

Navideshahed: One of the Iran-Iraq prisoners of war says about the Iraqi Baathist regime’s tough and had activities against the prisoners of war during captivity era.

“Paying attention to the intellectualities and spiritualities was something that was really significant for the prisoners of war during captivity era. The prisoners of war would try to perform their prayers on time and collectively. Since Iraqis were against any work of them, they would express their opposition to this action of the prisoners of war. Also we were so persistent to do that as well,”? he said.

I was Mokaber (the one who calls for prayer and stands there in order to make the prayer regular). Each time that the Iraqi soldier or guard would come towards our sanatorium, the Iranian guard would inform others and the war veterans would change the public prayer into individual prayers. It means some of the war veterans would bend the knees sooner. Some of them would recite Hamd and Surah slowly. One or two of the war veterans would bow quicker and therefore when the Iraqi guard would reach to the window, he would see that there is no public prayer there.

The prisoners of war had exceeded this action too and they would teach those war veterans who did not have a strong belief or they would not pay attention to prayer so much and they would make them understand that how important prayer and worshipping is for them. Therefore the number of the worshippers would be increased day by day.

Komeil Prayer, Tavasol Prayer, Ashura Prayer, the Prayer related to the Imam of the Time were the permanent programs of the worshipping for the prisoners of war.

The End
