Deputy Head of “Society of Islamic Revolution and Sacred Defense Photographers”?:

War Photography Requires Organizational Supports

TEHRAN, (SCIB) - Deputy Head of “Society of Islamic Revolution and Sacred Defense Photographers”? said: “Organizational support is one of the ways to remove obstacles and solve problems of war photography.”?

In an interview with Navideshahed reporter; Deputy Head of “Society of Islamic Revolution and Sacred Defense Photographers”? said: “Compared to media and press the “Society”? enjoys minimum facilities for supporting photographers. We have very limited facilities; because we don’t have more than this and presence of photographer and reporter costs very high considering current expenses of war.”?

Mohammad-hossein Heydari further added: “We were not much influenced by our organization during our presence in war. And we took photos based on our ideas and beliefs. We might censor ourselves due to feeling committed and due to our relations with the subject. And we felt that it was not right to take photos of a particular subject.”?
In continuation he said: “Many of our photographers during sacred defense did not publish their photos in press; but we later found out that their photographs are valuable. It was while media had not improved to the required level at that time in order that they use those pictorial documents. Theses photographs would not be kept in archives if the media had improved to that particular level of growth and knowledge. And that is while we know photographs are more effective than words.”?

Deputy Head of “Society of Islamic Revolution and Sacred Defense Photographers”? further stated: “We still have photographs that we cannot publish due to spiritual and psychological security of the society. Sacred defense photographs are studied as far as quality and level of access are concerned. And despite passing of time since finishing of war we still have photographs that we cannot publish due to spiritual and psychological security of the society.”?
War photographs and their surroundings complete each other. We cannot omit any of them. And we should consider a share for each of them. They complete each other and they can have their own effects. Understandings are different according to thoughts and cultures, he said.
He further mentioned: “We have not yet noticed personal photos as an important section in war photographs. We can work on this in press and books. We have not noticed to them yet. This is while such photos picture better our defensive character. And we have neglected this section.”?
Deputy Head of “Society of Islamic Revolution and Sacred Defense Photographers”? emphasized on importance of personal and memory photos in war and said: “There are very diverse faces in these photos. Our photographers acted based on humanity in war. And they did not emphasize on equipments. That is while in other war equipments are emphasized. And we witness focus on weapons. In our war people and their behaviors were precious and humanitarian relations were very effective. And this part is a valuable pictorial treasure.”?
In conclusion, Heydari said: “We often use war photographs; but we could not pay attention to the importance of photographers at the time of taking photos and after that. Despite all these, we see very good photos now. It is while institutions and publications published a limited number of these photos at that time. And it was due to lack of time. And the rest of photographs were kept in archives. And it shows the fact that many photographs have not been watched yet. And now we make efforts to find and notice these valuable and high quality photos again.”?
