Egypt’s Int’l Quran Competition to Open Saturday

TEHRAN, (SCIB) –The 15th edition of Egypt’s international Quran Contest is to commence Saturday in Cairo.

ccording to Al-Moheet Website, the opening ceremony will be attended by President Hosni Mubarak, as well as Sheikh Mohammad Sayyid Al-Tantawi head of the Al-Azhar university and Ali Juma Egypt’s grand Mufti. Egypt’s Minister of Owqaf and Islamic Affairs, Mahmoud Hamdi Zaqzuq has said that Quran memorizers and reciters from 70 countries will compete in the contest, which is held in the categories of Tajweed and memorization of the holy Quran. The Egyptian contestants have been selected out of 7325 applicants who took part in the preliminary competitions held in all the country’s provinces.
