Zarrin Dast: “Bitter like honey, witty look at the war”?

TEHRAN, (SCIB) - Alireza Zarrin Dast regarded Mohammad Basheh Ahangar’s witty look at the war and its consequences as the main reason of his acceptance of the post of director of photography in the cinematic project ‘Bitter like honey ‘.

“The script of ‘Bitter like Honey’ contains brilliant moments. The subtle and yet touching connection of the story to our symbolic and spiritual look at the war was what impressed me the most and intrigued me to shoot the film”? Zarrin Dast told reporters. “I am lucky enough not to have to do any film out of necessity. I didn’t know Ahangar, but found his script extremely interesting. I told myself that the character of a person who has written such a brilliant script can not be that detached from his work.”? said Zarrin Dast, who has also been the cinematographer of Amir Naderi’s acclaimed film “Harmonica”? (Saz Dahani). Zarrin Dast praised Ahangar for presenting the viewer with a fascinating portrait of the 8 year war with Iraq, without turning to showing blasts, bombardments and mines. “In some moments, the work depicts the lives of people who are not essentially mean; but who have to utilize the circumstances of war to support themselves.”? The camera seeks to present the humane look of the film at life. This look can sometimes seem holy, other times it appears as extremely cruel, the cinematographer noted. “My camera has to prove its loyalty to reality in order to be able to illustrate the subtlety of such a story. Moreover, it has to attract the audience’s attention to the golden points that the director has had in mind.”? he added. Zarrindast considered the cooperation with the production team of ‘Bitter like honey’ an interesting experience. “The positive vibe of the crew is certainly transferred to the audience and will make the film an appealing work. This emanates from the sincerity and closeness of the staff thanks to the wise management of the film’s producer.”? Zarrin Dast has shot more than %50 of the film in locations in the town of Paveh and its surrounding countryside. The film is being produced by Seyyed Ahmad Mir Alayee and is a product of Soureh organization of Cinematic development.
