Iran is the Most Oppressed Victim of Chemical Warfare
When Hiroshima was bombarded by atomic weapons, all the people of the world attempted to help this city, but we did not know the value of helps. When I came to Iran and I observed the situation of chemical bombardment of Sardasht and Marivan, I really realized the assistance of the people of world to Hiroshima.
Though I observed them during the war, but I really understood the real value of the people assistance of world to Hiroshima. Even though during the eight year war of Iran-Iraq, we would receive some news about the war and we would be aware that some persons were martyred and injured, but we received no news about the chemical bombardments. In fact we were unaware of the real events which occurred in Iran.
What you read above was the sayings of Dr. Shizo Kosoya, the Chairman of Peace Seeking Society of Japan which can indicates the innocence of Iran during the Imposed War Era. Since the superpowers of the world would support the Iraqi regime during the Iran-Iraq war, the International Community showed no tendency to respond and review the complaints of Iranian people. Since the International Community delayed in its reactions caused that the effects of chemical weapons from the contaminated war zones to be removed.
Javier Perez de Cuellar, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations who would lead the United Nations during the Iran-Iraq war regarding this issue says: “When Iraq deployed chemical weapons against Iran, the Security Council showed no reaction for my requests. Also since I had some authority in this field, I dispatched some expert teams there in order to verify and examine the bombarded places. On the other hand, we should not forget this issue that the negligence of the press and Medias caused that the public opinion to be unaware of the realities which occurred in this field nationally and internationally.”
While as the Head of the Chemical Warfare Victims Affairs Center of Iran says, more than $ 37 milliards are spent annually for the health cares and treatment costs of chemically injured patient. According to the researches which have been done in this field, from 3000 chemically injured patient from the Imposed War Era, 10 % are affected to intensive respiratory health problems, 25 % suffer intense skin problems and 70 % suffer eye problems. The majority of chemically injured patients of Iran have been exposed to mustard gas during the Iraq’s chemical warfare attacks. According to the researches which have been done in this field, this gas has no effects on the next generations. Thanks God!
