Martyr Bassel Asad, the Symbol of Islamic Resistance in Syria

Who was Bassel?

After joining to the Army College and the commandership of Joint Staff Headquarters and the units of parachutists, he passed the progression steps so quickly and eventually he was appointed as the commander of the Syria’s Presidential Guard.

Bassel was interested in informatics and knowledge-oriented sciences so much and he was the first person who brought the informatics sciences into Syria.

When he was 11 years old, he joined the Unity of Revolution Youths. Also he learnt shooting, equitation and the art of passing from obstacles, although he was too young.

When he was only 13 years old , it means in 1975, he joined the Arabic Ba’ath Socialist Party and he followed up his party activities in this party, while he would continue his sporty activities as well. Eventually he got the champion of shooting in 1981 in Syria. After accomplishing his elementary education, he entered the Civil Engineering College in order to get his bachelor degree in this field and after that he entered the college of armed forces. Therefore he graduated from this college with the degree of Armored Engineering and the ranking of major. Finally he promoted his ranking to the Armored Officer in 1988 at the age of 26.

Bassel Assad also was interested in military and scientific researches so much and that is why he conducted so much researches in this field with the Soviet Union joined and it was welcomed so much inside Syria as well and for this purpose, some other scientific and similar researches were done with 15 other countries and so in this case he got an excellent position in the PhD of military sciences.

He was among the few persons of Armed Forces in Syria who accomplished the training course of leading the military helicopters. He also started learning flying with the MIG 21 aircrafts, but he was not able to finish that.

While Bassel Assad had entered the third decade of his lifetime, he was died in a suspicious driving accident on March 21, 1994; later it was found out that this accident was a terrorist attack and it had taken place against him by the Zionist Regime’s spy organizations and therefore we can say that he was martyred near the airport of Damascus.
The reality is Bassel Assad from the time that he was a young man at the age of 20 and form the age that he was studying in university in Damascus university had so much interests to political, domestic and foreign affairs.

Two kilometers away from the airport of Damascus, apparently the driver was not able to control the car and it hit the statue of Hafez Assad near the road with a high speed.

This hospital had been constructed for the purpose of helping the Palestinians of Damascus Yarmok camping and the Iraqis who had sheltered in Syria and they lived there as refugees. At that time the chairmanship of this hospital was done by Dr. Kheir Andish, the Iranian physician dispatched to Syria; anyways, the initial healthcares were not effective and Bassel Assad was martyred due to the intensity of the injuries.

At that time, the Zionist Medias for the purpose of misleading the public opinion from the interference of Mossad in this terror, they made the rumors, that some of the officers of the Presidential Guard of Syria that its commander was Colonel Asef Shokat, the husband of Bashri Assad, the only daughter of Hafez Assad that they had made some changes in the brake of Bassel’s car.

The accident took place at 6:00 o’clock in the evening, but no one dared to inform the accident news to Hafez Assad. The shifting guard of the palace ‘Al-Ruzeh’ of Damascus informed the accident news to General Mustafa Talas, the former defense minister of Syria. Hafez Assad got out from the room, but when he faced with these authorities, he was so surprised and he stood in the middle of the hall in a strange condition and he asked, maybe Bassel has been killed?

A magnificent funeral procession was held for Bassel Assad in which Hosni Mubarak the deposed president of Egypt, Elyas Haravi, the former president of Lebanon, Nabiyeh Bari, the speaker of the parliament, Seyed Mohammad Hussein Fazlollah, the Friday Imam of Beirut, Mohammad Mahdi Shams Al-Din, the former speaker of Shiites Excellence Assembly of Lebanon’s Shiites, the representatives of Imam Khomeini and the Iranian government and hundreds of thousand of Syrian and Lebanese people attended the event.

The burial ceremony of Bassel Assad also was held by presence of the leaders of Islamic Resistance and the Shiites characters and the Iranian authorities. At the time of burying the body of Bassel, also one of the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran put some soil on the grave of Bassel as well. After a week, the late Mohammad Mahdi Jawaheri, the outstanding Shiite poet form Iraq and the grandson of Mohammad Hussein Najafi ‘the owner of jewelry’ expressed a very long and beautiful poem for Bassel Assad’s demise. Jawaheri, the expert Shiite poet had lived in Syria as a political refugee due to the fears of Saddam Hussein. Therefore according to the demand of Hafez Assad, he would benefit of all the advantages of a Syrian minister. About ten poems from this painful story were prepared through music by Seyed Makavi, the expert music imposer who was blind and belonged to Egypt. This man had a long friendship with the family of Assad. Also Mayad Hanavi, the famous singer of Syria expressed these poems with a sorrowful voice. The effects of these song was in a way that Mrs. Aniseh Makhlof, the spouse of Hafez Assad got unconscious when she heard this song from the T.V. channel of Syria. Due to the extraordinary effectiveness of this song on the morale of Assad’s family, Hafez Assad demanded Mohammad Salman, the former Information Minister of Syria that this song not to be displayed and broadcasted by the T.V again.

The Syrian Group who got happy from the martyrdom of Bassel

Even though this painful event made all the people of Syria to mourn and bereave, but some of the extremist groups and Ikhwanul Muslimin Syria were not able to hide their happiness for the martyrdom of Bassel Assad.
