Fakke, the Land of Water Thirst and Love Slaking

Navideshahed: I moved from Dezful city and I arrived to a place close to Fakeh war zone. There was no tree, no villages and no water.

You can't help asking how Valfajr Operation fighters fought on the heating sands of Fakke, when you look at its barren torrid deserts. In such a place, four significant military operations were launched against the Iraqi invaders. Therefore paying attention to the description of these operations and sacrifices regarding the Iranian war veterans under the most tough and difficult situations is really interesting and amazing.

It is impossible that you look at the scorching areas of Fakeh which don’t have any herbs and water and then don’t ask this question from yourself that ‘Why the strong and brave war veterans of Iran fought against the enemy on this land?’ Sometimes even walking for a minute in the hot sands of Fakeh is something impossible; is this possible to run and fight against the enemy in this scorching land without the weapon of passion?

There is no doubt that here is a far remote area located in the northwest of Khuzistan province. It is enough that we go a few kilometers from Fakeh towards the western side to reach Al-Amareh city of Iraq.

The asphalted road which is so narrow is the only way which goes to Fakeh. All the places have been covered with the sands and a dense dust. The sky has been full of dusts as well.

Ever ten minutes a car rarely passes from this road and it seems that silence, hotness and desert all have been united to make Fakeh road something different from all the roads existing on the earth.

In this scorching area, four significant military operations were launched against the Iraqi invaders which listening to the description of these operations and sacrifices regarding the Iranian war veterans under the most tough and difficult situations is really interesting and amazing.

The hugest military operations which were launched in Fakeh war zone include Valfajr Moghadamati and Valfajr 1 which took place in the years between 1982 and 1983. The target of these two operations was controlling the strategic points of Al-Amareh city located in Iraq.

Even though both military operations were not able to achieve and realize the previously determined targets, but the narration of the sacrifices that were done in the war zone ‘Fakeh’ are still popular.

The survivors of these operations talk about creation of epics in Fakeh which were full of blood and sweating.

One of the battalions which made many sacrifices and epics in Fakeh war zone and their sacrifices became everlasting was Hanzaleh battalion. 300 war veterans of this battalion were surrounded by the enemy in a canal, but despite of tolerating thirst, hunger and lack of munitions for many days, they did not surrender and they fought against the enemy until the last moment.

Ali Mahmoudvand is one of the survivors of Hanzaleh battalion who fought in Fakeh war zone. He describes the epics and sacrifices of war veterans in this war zone as follows:

“We had little munitions. The war veterans were looking for some bullets for their Kalashnikov guns insides the soils and nuts. We had resisted for a week. We had little water of compotes only and it has been rationed. The war veterans had to tolerate much thirsts and hungers; besides we had been surrounded by the enemy too and we had to stand against all the troubles at the same time…”?

But each time that the enemy speakers would alarm and announce that we must surrender, but war veterans would chant the words “Allah O Akbar”? so loudly. I should say that as long as I’m alive, I will never forget the Iraqi speaker sounds which would ask us to give up fighting and to surrender.

Most of the military operations that were launched in Fakeh are known as the obstacle operations; because despite of the scorching sands, lack of water, tiredness, existence of barbed wires, landmines with high depts. And digging trenches and deep tunnels which were full of landmines, it has become that loosing each meter in Fakeh war zone to be the same as loosing the life of a war veteran.

During the military operation Valfajr, many of the Iranian war veterans were martyred in the tunnels that had been mined by the Iraqi Baahist forces and some of the Iranian soldiers were martyred in the Karbala of Fakeh due to thirst and lack of water.

That is why the history will certify forever that the popularity of Fakeh was not due to is scorching sands and waterless deserts; its popularity was due to the zeal of some strong and great men who fought against the enemy only because of God satisfaction.

They were not afraid of thirst and lack of water. They picked their guns and they fought against the enemy in the way of Jihad against polytheists. They fought as unknown soldiers and they sacrificed their lives, but their spirit will be with God forever.

In fact it is the reality of popularity which shouts in each piece of Fakeh war zone. It is enough that you do not look at the view with your head eyes, but only look at it with your heart eyes, then you will see the heaven that is special for good persons. In fact the same heaven belongs to Fakeh, because the bodies of the greatest and most respectful men lied down on this earth after martyrdom.

The End
