Iranian Former Dictator Expulsion Anniversary

Navideshahed: January 16 is the anniversary of former Iranian dictator, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, expulsion from Iran and the end to the tyrannies of Pahlavi dynasty.

The formation and expansion of Islamic movement and coordination of people uprising under the leadership of Imam Khomeini and holding commemorations for the 40th day of martyrdom of martyrs in different cities and the massacre of September 08 and the strike of Oil Company personnel caused that the Shah’s regime not to be able to control the government anymore. So via a short period of time the power bases of 2500 years of monarchy were completely weakened. As a result the Shah fled Iran.

Since Shah was not able to create discipline and peace and to resolve the strikes which had paralyzed country’s economy, he entered a national conflict.

After the failure of Jamshid Amuzegar, Jafar Sharif Emami and Ezhari did not also succeed to control the big deal of anger and distaste of public resulted from the Islamic movement; Shah tested his final chance and he attempted to select one of the members of national conflict members who was apparently against Shah’s regime to suppress the anger of people.

That is why Shapour Bakhtiyar accepted to become Iran’s prime minister in the condition that Shah to leave Iran and getting the confidence vote of the parliament and cabinet.

Eventually Shah and his wife left Iran on January 16, 1979 after many years violation and cruelty and they went to Egypt. Even the closest friends and allies did not accept to host him during that time. After the escape of Shah, the people of Iran came to the streets and expressed their happiness. They would share flowers and sweets to each others. They celebrated the great victory of Islamic Revolution and it was the time Pahlavi’s regime was overthrown after 50 years of tyranny. In a way that less than a month passing from the escape of Shah, the scroll of 2500 years of monarchy was ended.
