Along with the watchmen, we had selected a room in a tall building as the place for watching. This tall building had been located near Arvand River [Arvand River is the river that is between Iran and Iraq].
There was heavy fire from the two sides of the war in the region. The fire was heavier especially in the surrounding area of the jetty that was better watched by the Iraqi forces.
Our brigade had been commanded to open fore on “Om – Alrasas” and “Om – Ababi” Islands. Most of the guys in our brigade were from Yazd City.
“Om – Alrasas” Island’s surrounding was covered with short reeds and wide grasses. The Iraqi forces had covered the surrounding of the island with lots of big and strong barbed wire and sun obstacles. Due to the tall height of the watchman room, we could almost watch the whole parts of that region in Iraq. We easily opened fire on strong holds, roads and main ways. We had considered some particular points. It was almost two months that we were becoming ready for the operation in this region. And during these last days, the Iraqi forces had opened much heavier fire on us.
Around the jetty, the Iraqi forces hit our “Basiji” Forces with RPG 7. After few days, our guys found out that a professional Iraqi shooter of RPG was hunting our guys since the morning till night.
The watchmen were commanded to reconnoiter this Iraqi shooter of RPG. We looked and searched through the field glasses in this small room on the elevator on the beach of the island for few days. And finally, the professional shooter of RPG appeared in the frame of the field glasses. He was a middle age man. He was almost 40 years. And he was completely bald.
We found more about him every day that passed. This bald man always prepared his RPG and hid in a corner of Arvand beach, where it was suitable for hiding. And he shot our combatants at the first possible moment. He caused many casualties. He had become famous among our guys as “The Bald RPG Shooter”. We made lots of efforts to shoot him and his secret place; but we could not. The fight between our combatants and this bald man continued by the time the operation started. It was “Val- Fajr 8” Operation.
When our combatants entered “Om – Alrasas” Island in the morning, this bald enemy was one of the first forces of the enemy that had been killed.
Our divers had killed this bald RPG shooter the previous night. And our combatants gained high morale when they saw him dead.
There was no more a bald man in the frame of the filed glasses later than that night.
