The Unpublished Letter of Martyr Dowran to His Wife:

I did not drop bombs on women and people’s children

Navideshahed: Mahnaz take care of yourself; you should know that it is the war and the situation of country is not ordinary. Maybe what I say about myself is not believable for you, but you should know that during any operation that I launched, I did not drop bombs on women and people’s children. When I wanted to bombard, if I saw someone was on the target, I turned round and came back again to bombard that place when there was no one there.

According to Navideshahed, the interesting letter which has been written by martyr Abbas Dowran during the initial years of the Iran-Iraq war to his spouse has some great points. It has a concept which can be useful for today’s situation. Not only these concepts are beneficial for the authorities, but also they can be useful for the university students, university professors and even the employees…If on that day the need of the main need of the Islamic revolution was military defense against the fully armed enemy, today’s type of defense is different, otherwise defense has remained yet. Today since Iran has faced with the toughest types of sanctions since 1978 until now, having a duty viewpoint towards the right of people and the values is really necessary. These issues were compiled by martyr Dowran in 1980 so well for his wife:

My dear, my dear Mrs. Mahnaz, Hi:

You should inform me that you are fine and you don’t express the excuse of being away from me so much. For me to be away from you might be really difficult, but what we can do, it is war and it does not consider the situation of women and men. You had written that you would like to return to Bushehr; Mahnaz, I swear to your life that no one is her; most of the people have sent their wives and children to Tehran, Shiraz, Esfahan and…

Also Ali (major general pilot martyr Ali Reza Yasini) might bring Mrs. Parvaneh and his children to Shiraz. I went to their home last night. Ali Reza had gone to Hamedan for the purpose of a mission. He telephoned me from there that he had just returned from the mission. I wanted to get tea for myself that he informed me telephone. Ali said: “Mehrzad, Marzieyh and Parvaneh are alone. He asked me to promise to meet them.”? He told me: “I don’t want you go home and to rest and then you say that you have forgotten my words…”? you see that this wife and husband are the same as Leili and Majnoon.

Poor Parvaneh had become so thin compared to the past. Also the little Mehrzad had gotten affected to measles and after that she had been affected to Parotitis. It was clear that Mrs. Parvaneh had cried so much due to this issue. I rang to Ali and I said, Ali, I think that Mrs. Parvaneh has considered the sickness of Mehrzad as an excuse and she has cried so much. Ali laughed and he said: “Hey jealous man, don’t you like someone to miss me and to cry for me?”?

I have missed you so much. I used my sunglasses and I was with my flight uniform and boots that had not been polished for a few days and I waited until the sunrise. I remembered the day that I had just brought you here in the Motel Risekes Restaurant, maybe it was the marriage anniversary of one of the comrades. If Mrs. Parvaneh and children came to Shiraz during the next one or two days, I will send money to you too; I don’t have much opportunity to go home. Ali has the same situation as well. We don’t even have the opportunity to take shower. Not only I can not take a shower, but also I can remove my boots every three days. Ali who was a handsome guy has shaved his hair. Also my appearance has become the same as the Dervish who was in the forked road ‘Zand’.

The war veterans of the battalion took me and Ali to bath in order to take a shower during one night when we felt so sleepy. Also they opened the tap of the bath in order we take our shower. At first we expressed many bad words to them, but after that we prayed for me, because when we removed our boots, we observed that there was some mold inside our feet fingers.

Mahnaz please take care of yourself; I did not express these fords in order to sadden you. You should know that it is war and the situation of country is not ordinary. It was not possible for me to leave the war because I have married only for a year and we love each other so much. I can not come home and stay there. The people have spent money for this year of my education. Before the war we had a comfortable life and we enjoyed our life so much and we had so many funs. As one of the comrades of this battalion says, we ate and rested so well before the war. Now it is the tame to compensate, if we don’t stand against these cruel and brutal forces (Iraqi Baathist forces) they will occupy our lands and capture our women and children…

Regarding Shiraz city, I should say that you can stay relax, because this city is safe and sound. The high mountains have surrounded it and they do not let the Iraqi aircrafts to come there and to attack it. Maybe what I say about myself is not believable for you, but you should know that during any operation that I launched, I did not drop bombs on women and people’s children. When I wanted to bombard, if I saw someone was on the target, I turned round and came back again to bombard that place when there was no one there.

Maybe you have got so surprised that your silent husband during this time has become so talkative, but I should say that I myself also do not know about it, therefore convey my greeting to all; also visit our house so much. Each time that my mom sees you, she thinks that she has met with me. Everything will be corrected soon. I love you so much!

Take care of yourself/ your husband Abbas
