Europe’s 1st Martyr of Mihrab Commemorated

Navideshahed: 40 days after the martyrdom of Hojat-ol-Islam Abdullah Dahdou, prayer leader of a mosque in Brussels, a commemoration ceremony was held on Saturday, April 21, in Paris, IQNA’s correspondent reported.

Hujjat al-Islam Dahdou was martyred on March 12 after the Imam Reza (AS) mosque in Brussels, in which he led prayers, was firebombed by an extremist. Hence, he is known as the first martyr of Mihrab (prayer niche in a mosque) in Europe.

The ceremony in Paris, which was jointly organized by the Iranian Cultural Center and representative office of Al-Mustafa International University, began with recitation of Quranic verses by Iranian reciter Morteza Pouladi, followed by a speech delivered about the Imam Reza (AS) Mosque and Islamic Center of Brussels.

A talk given by Martyr Dahdou’s son and screening a film on the life of the martyr were among other parts of the program.

It was announced in the commemoration ceremony that the Imam Reza (AS) Mosque and Islamic Center of Brussels is planned to be developed and that it will serve as a symbol for Shi’ites residing in Belgium.

Later in the program, the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Zahra (SA), the beloved daughter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was commoerated and Hujjat al-Islam Rekabi delivered a speech about the life and character of Hazrat Zahra (SA).
