‘Turkey attempting to claim Persian calligraphy styles as its own’

Turkey has been holding different seminars and festivals on calligraphy over the past years, inviting world calligraphers to introduce Persian calligraphy styles as its own, he said.

Speaking at a press conference on the national festival on Seerah Nabawiya calligraphy to be held in Isfahan, he added that the Art Bureau needs to investigate calligraphy further. “We would prefer to increase our support of the art of calligraphy,”? the Persian service of ISNA reported on Monday.

Seerah Nabawiya is the manner, conduct, appearance and behavior of Prophet Muhammad (S) in the context of his life and the time and place of the people to whom he was sent.

Sayyednia lamented the fact that Isfahan lacks a proper facility to acquire and preserve great calligraphy masterpieces including works by deceased master Nasrollah Moin Isfahani known as Moinolketab (1936-2009).

The bureau is making its best efforts to preserve his works and to prevent them from leaving the country, he stated.

Sayyednia urged Iranian calligraphers and officials to try to preserve the cultural identity of their country.

Moinolketab was a prominent calligrapher from Isfahan basically known for his beautiful nastaliq style of calligraphy. Among his masterpieces are the inscriptions on one of the entrance doors of the Imam Reza (AS) Holy Shrine in Mashhad, and the calligraphy on Rudaki’s gravestone in Panjrud near Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

The festival on Seerah Nabawiya due to be held in February in Isfahan will feature different calligraphy styles and will display a collection of works as well.
