Mohsen Rezaee Speaks about “Martyr Hashemi”?

TEHRAN, (SCIB) - It was first believed that he was captured by the Iraqi forces; but after exchanging the war captives and asking for the status of war captives in camps, we thought that Saddam had killed him and buried him some where in Iraq.

Haj Ali was from Khouzestan Province; the same land that - as Imam Khomeini said - fulfilled its duty to Islam; and the children and people from this province fulfilled this duty too. Who knows this hidden secret? Those who fulfill their duty and pay their debt become unknown martyrs. Haj Ali was the commander of secret base of “Nosrat”?. In the reconnaissance missions, he was the guide of great commanders of war such as Martyr Hemmat and Martyr Baakeri. This person who knew the southern area of the country as well as the palm of his hands had been lost in cane lands or some where further than us for years. Or may be we had lost him.
Now we found him; the distance between us became little. Haj Ali came in order to see how long the distance is between us and him and his friends. He came in order that we see how much we had become far from what we were. This story of being far and close is the story of distress of our spirits.
It is told that Mohsen Rezaee is the only person who knows him well. Rezaee spoke about Ali Hashemi, the companion who had just returned from trip.
Although this interview is short but it is the key of secrets that will not be hidden for ever.
Q - Would you tell us when you became familiar with Martyr Hashemi?
A - It was almost two months after the beginning of the imposed war that I went to Hamidieh from Ahvaz City. At that time, he was the commander of Sepah Pasdaran [The Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution] in Hamidieh. And I became familiar with him since that time.
Q - Considering the fact that Nosrat Base was a secret base, what characteristics of Martyr Hashemi caused to be chosen as the commander of this critical and strategic base?
A - Considering the special problems that this city faced with - such as fighting against the anti - revolutionary forces and organizing committed forces militarily - and in the position of the commander of Sepah Pasdaran in Hamidieh, he showed unique talents and potentials. Then he was selected as the commander of Brigade 37 Nour.
The mission was to form Brigade 37 Nour for Hamidieh - Sousangerd area in which people spoke in Arabic Language. And considering the propaganda of Saddam, these areas were highly critical and important.
Saddam claimed that he intended to save the Arab people and free the Arab people in Iran. In order to prove that this claim was a lie we presented the idea of forming this brigade. This brigade was of high importance because all forces in this brigade were all Arabic speaking and local people. As a matter of fact; it was formed both to show that Saddam’s propaganda was wrong and to prove that none of the tribes in Iranian nation have shown sympathy and willingness to Saddam.
He actually showed good performance in Brigade 37 Nour. As for one of the most important points, I can refer to his influential participation in the operation of freeing Khorramshahr City. He showed great potential and talent in managing this brigade. Some time after the preliminary Valfajr Operation, a base was formed under the name of Nosrat Base. And Martyr Hashemi was assigned as the commander of this base. It is not bad to know that every base led 5 to 6 brigades.

Q - Why isn’t clear information about this base in news and documents related to war?
A - The activities carried out by this base were completely secret. Except Hazrat Imam Khomeini, me and a few of officials of the country, no one else knew about establishing such base.

Q - Which characteristic of this base caused that Nosrat Base was referred less in the documents of war? And what caused that no one was informed of its establishment?

A - This base was very vital for us. Familiarity of Martyr Ali Hashemi and his companions with the region helped commanders to get on boats and move towards the heart of the enemy’s lines for reconnaissance missions in an area such as Hour - ol Aazeem that was filled with water. We put on local clothes and accomplished these reconnaissance missions. These commanders were namely Martyr Hemmat, Martyr Baakeri, Martyr Zeyneddin, Martyr Kharrazi, Martyr Bagheri, Martyr Ahmad Kazemi, Haj Ahmad Motevasselian, Mr Ghalibaf and even me.
And Sepah Pasdaran really needed creative and organizer people like him in accomplishing reconnaissance missions; because in such situations, only captivity of one of the commanders would cause big problems. These efforts made by him in accomplishing reconnaissance missions led to successful operations such as Kheybar and Badr.

Q - Would you please speak more about outstanding characteristics of Martyr Hashemi?
A - He was an expert in reconnaissance missions and operations. He really filled the gap of 30 forces with 2 or 3 of his men in Sepah Pasdaran. He was a brave and honest man. Since the beginning till the end of war, he kept all the secret issues of war in his heart like a pearl inside an oyster.
Q - Would you tell us how he was martyred?
A - It was in Hour - ol Aazeem and when the battle with the Ba’th Regime of Iraq became harder. They were surrounded by the enemy forces when they were withdrawing. And they really fought till finishing their last bullet. He was apparently injured in the same battle. And he hid himself in the cane lands. And seemingly he was martyred due to lots of bleeding.

Q - What efforts were made to find him?
A - It was first believed that he was captured by the Iraqi forces; but after exchanging the war captives and asking for the status of war captives in camps, we thought that Saddam had killed him and buried him some where in Iraq.

Q - Considering the fact that we believe that martyrs are examples for us in life and if Martyr Hashemi was alive at the present time, do you think he would be involved in political issues? And if yes, how would he act in this case?

A - For us, war was defending from the Islamic Revolution. For us, war was defending Islam. And it is a political issue itself. And today, defending from Islam, the Holy Quran, national interests and the interests of people are the most important political issue. I believe that he would be a political person like past; but he would not act based on attitudes of particular parties; but he would attach the most importance to defending from Islam and the Islamic Revolution in his activities.
