The Session on “Studying the Situation of Book and Book Reading in the Field of Self Sacrifice and Martyrdom”? Was Held

According to the reporter of Navideshahed; General Director of Publication and Information Dissemination of “Martyr Foundation and Isargaran Affairs”?, Javad Mohaghegh, the Writer and Poet, Mohammad-javad Jazeeni, the Writer and Critic in the field of narrative literature, Hassan Rostam-khani, Commercial and Sales Manager of “Soureh Mehr Publication”? and a number of thinkers and people interested in the field of self sacrifice and martyrdom attended this session.
At the beginning of this session, Javan Mohaghegh, the Writer and Poet spoke about different statistics in the field of book and book reading. He said: “The situation of book and book reading is not critical in the country. And the statistics that show low level of studying books and producing books are not creditable enough. Type of book reading in Iran is different from other countries; because, in Iran people use personal libraries more than public libraries. And since some statistics are presented based on study in public libraries; so, these statistics show low level of study in our country.”?

As for situation of producing books in our country, this writer said: “The number of books produced in our country during one year is even more than the number of books published in advanced countries. The total annual circulation of books in our country is 40,000 copies. And there are 15,000 publishers in our country out of which 8 to 9 thousand publishers are selected ones.”?
Mohaghegh referred to problems in the field of book and book reading and said: “Distribution is the largest problem in this field. And this problem has been solved since holding provincial book fairs.”?
In conclusion, this poet said: “We should not seek quantity in the field of book and book reading. And quality of book and book reading is important in this field.”?


In continuation of this session, Mohammad-javad Jazeeni, the Writer and Critic in the field of narrative literature spoke about weakness of research in the field of book and book reading and said: “Through conducting a research, we have come to the result that the main problem in this field goes back to the fact that foundations limit the field of self sacrifice and martyrdom to war years. More than 70 percent of published books in this field are not published again. And it may be due to the reason that the books in the field of self sacrifice and martyrdom are written in a way that they are expired after some time. And there is another high probability which goes to the fact that publishers like to present quantity statistics; so they only support the first edition of books and they don’t show any interest to the second edition and influencing on audiences.”?
As for lack of interest of publishers in publishing books for second time; he said: “Thousands of events happened during war that were worthy to be written; so, publishers hurried to publish these events before they are expired. And consequently, many publishers only focused on publishing the book for the first time rather than noticing to effectiveness of those events.”?
He referred to the writers in this field and added: “Many of writers in this field are not professional writers. And this field has been formed as the field of experience. No attention is paid to the need of audiences; while it is a very important issue. And as a result, audiences show less interest in studying books in this field.”?
Jazeeni further said: “Foundations which produce books in the field of self sacrifice and martyrdom are completely governmental foundations. And we should pave grounds for other foundations and publishers to publish books in this field.”?
In conclusion, this critic said: “In order to make publishers and people more interested in producing and reading books, we should prevent publishing any repeated books in this field which are published as “First edition”?. And while observing moral principles, we should persuade audiences, the young generation in particular, that what they read are national documents and national prides of their homeland. And we should make these books attractive and interesting.”?

Hassan Rostam-khani, the Commercial and Sales Manager of “Soureh Mehr Publication”? also delivered speech about position of “Book”? in this session and said: “In the circle of production, distribution and consumption, we should create the culture that “Book”? is not something to spend free time with. And we should keep audiences away from this way of thinking. People like to study books. And we sometimes witness that many books are highly welcomed by audiences. And it goes back to paying attention to the need of audiences. And it is less noticed in the books which are published in the field of self sacrifice and martyrdom.”?
As for the duty of publishers; Rostam-khani said: “Producing books is a clear part of publication; while training writers and audience is a hidden part in every publication. And it is a mechanism that is not noticed in the field of book and book reading. More people will become interested in studying if we adopt some changes in the model of consumption such that the writer is more interested in writing while the need of audience is noticed.”?


He further spoke about the problems of literature in the field of self sacrifice and martyrdom and said: “The current vacuum in “Literature of Resistance”? is the serious problem in this field; because this type of literature is merely for special audience and there are no expert writers in this field. And we have grown in merely one field.”?
In conclusion, Rostam-khani said: “We hope that we can adopt great changes in the field of publishing books in future. And we can fill this vacuum by continuous relations with audiences and readers.”?
