UN will begin aid deliveries to Syria’s Homs

Navideshahed- The United Nations will begin aid deliveries to Syria’s western city of Homs soon.

The aid convoys are due to enter Homs on Saturday, which is the second day of a three-day ceasefire brokered by the UN between the Syrian army and the foreign-backed militants.
“UN teams have pre-positioned food, medical and other basic supplies for immediate delivery as soon as the first group of civilians are out and we hope to send this aid on Saturday morning,”? said the UN humanitarian coordinator in Syria, Yacoub El Hillo.
“We commend all involved for reaching this milestone today,”? said Hillo.
UN spokesman Farhan Haq said the relief operation would continue. “We’ll try to evacuate more civilians and deliver aid in the next few days.”?
On February 7, dozens of people were evacuated from the city under the ceasefire agreement.
Under the deal, women, children and the elderly trapped by the fighting were allowed to leave the ancient parts of Homs, also known as Old Homs.
The deal allows the entrance of humanitarian assistance for civilians who choose to stay, while the two sides have also agreed on a pause in fighting while the deal is being implemented.
Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011. Millions of people have been displaced due to the turmoil.
Meanwhile, thousands of Syrians have returned home in the town of Muadamiyat al-Sham, located in Rif Dimashq Province near Damascus, following a ceasefire deal between the two sides of the conflict.
