May 23, the Anniversary of Khoramshahr Liberation

Navideshahed: Only in our imagination Khorramshahr was in peace and no missiles or rockets would drop on its lands. Its groves had not heard the sound of tank wheels; eventually Khorramshahr became bloody in August 1980. After passing the dark days that were full of smokes and captivity, the city was librated on May 23, 1982. Khorramshar was the city of burnt palms and palms without branches…

The conquest of Khorramshahr on May 23, 1982 has a high value in the history of Iran-Iraq war era. The news of Khorramshahr freedom was really amazing which surprised the whole nation of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

By announcing the news of Khorramshahr liberation, the people of Iraq cried in tears due to happiness. They had a feeling like being reunited with a missing child. They got so happy and delighted and they prayed for the spirit of those martyrs who fought for liberation of Khorramshahr.

In order to understand the greatness of this epic fighting that the occupying forces of Iraq before this great military operation had announced that they consider defending Khorramshahr the same as defending Basra, Baghdad and all the cities of Iraq.

Also the military equipments and facilities of enemy in this city would indicate that Iraq would consider the capture of Khorramshahr as a symbol of its victory and it aimed to preserve the control of the city by paying any costs.

When the first and second phases of the military operation ‘Beitol Moghadas’ was ended and the Iranian war veterans stationed around the city, the Iraqi Baathist regime’s radio would attempt to show that the presence of Iraqi war veterans in Khorramshahr city is obvious in order to weaken the morale of Iranian war veterans and to repair the weakened morale of Iraqi forces.

The conquest of Khorramshahr within a time of less than 24 hours caused that many of the Iraqi Baathist forces to be captured by Iranian forces.

The big, destiny maker and great military operation ‘Beitol Moghadas’ was launched to free the city from the control of Iraqi Baathist forces; this operation started from April 29 and lasted until June 3, 1981. This epic conflict in addition of ending the 19-month occupation to the most sensitive war zones of Khozistan and liberation of Khorramshahr, it also lead to high a bad attack against the enemy power and war seeking ambitions of Iraq and it was followed with much causality for the enemy in this field.

Anyways, if we want to briefly describe this operation, we should say that the military operation ‘Beitol Moghadas’ was considered as the most outstanding defensive operation that was launched by the Islamic Republic of Iran in the military chronology of eight year war of Sacred Defense Era.

If today we visit the public graveyards of each city and village and to review the writings of the gravestones we will see some martyrs who have taken part in the military operation of Khorramshahr Liberation. The collection of the martyrs of May 23 are considered as a small model from the resisting nation of Iran which shines the same as a sky that is full of stars. The happinesses of all round Iran after Khorramshahr liberation was another leaf of this national epic and it indicated that different classes of Iran who had not seen Khorramshahr even once, got so happy and delighted when they heard the news. In fact the people of Iran got so happy and they celebrated pushing back the enemy from Iranian lands.

May 23 is considered a national epic; if there was no presence of people in the conflicts, neither the liberation of Khorramshahr would occur nor the people would celebrate this victory. So we can sincerely say that honoring the capture of Khorramshahr was dependent to the honoring of people presence in all the scenes.

Remembering May 23, the Anniversary of Khorramshahr Liberation in the history of Iran:

The public mosque of Khorramshahr was the heart of the city that was beating and as long as this mosque existed, it was a manifestation of resistance. The public mosque of Khorramshahr was the same as a mother who would protect and defend her children. So as long as it existed, it was the manifestation of staying and resistance and when Khorramshahr was occupied by the enemy, the defenders had to leave their homes and to go to the other side of Khorramshahr River. Still the public mosque of Khorramshahr was the manifestation of their ambitions and it would not be obtained except by pushing back the enemy from this city. In fact the public mosque was the whole city for the people of this city.

Khorramshahr from the beginning of the war was nicknamed the bloody city. Khorramshahr had become a bloody city that some strong war veterans and Basijis get present there and fight and sacrifice their lives in order to defend it. Can this view be seen in any other types of thinking? They fought in the nostalgia and they were martyred so innocently. Their bodies were cut into pieces under the enemy tanks chains and they were combined with the water, wind, soil and fire. But the secret of blood was disclosed. The secret of blood can be understood by no one except by the martyrs. The circulation of blood in the vessels of life is so sweet, but dropping it for the one who you love, is more lovable; you should not say that it is sweeter, you should it is very sweeter.

The secret of blood is that that all the life is dependent to blood. Therefore when a person who sacrifices his blood, it means he has left this materialistic world and nothing is more valuable than life or any person. The secret of blood is in this issue that the lover does not grant it to everyone, only those persons who deserve it get aware of this secret. The one who tastes the enjoyment of this burning, he/she will be depressed if he/she wants to stay this exhausting life.

Those persons who are afraid of death, they are pushed back from Karbala. When our work became difficult and our staying in Khorramshahr had the meaning of martyrdom, it was the tame that we hold an Ashurayee night and those who have taken part in this difficult exam to be tested.

Karbala is the station of lovers and martyr Seyed Mohammad Ali Jahan Ara was one of these lovers. In fact only those persons who deserved martyrdom were matyred and stayed in this scene. The worthy persons for martyrdom were those persons whose heart had no place for fearing of death.

The martyrs are everlasting and they are the governors of green oceans of light and eternity which a rays of hat has shone all the galaxy of the second sky.
