The Iranian Teen who Made Iraqis Helpless

Navideshahed: Hamid Shamsollahi is a prisoner of war who spent eight years of his lifetime in the narrow and dark prisons of Iraqi Baathist regime. During his captivity he would teach French language to the other prisoners. Today after 30 years he expresses his memories related to that time.

Hamid Shamsollahi expresses a memory regarding the youngest prisoner of war during the Sacred Defense Era as follows: Ali Reza Ahmadi was a 10-year-old teenager who had been dispatched to the battlefields of Iran-Iraq war along with his father during the military operation ‘Ramadan’ in order to make drinks for the war veterans.

On the fifth day of the military operation, some of the war veterans were captured and this father and son were among the captives as well.

The Iraqi Baathist forces wanted to use this young teenager as a subject for their propagandas; that is why they separated him from his father in the prison and they took him to the Saddam’s Palace. On the other hand when the father and son were away from each other, the father would cry so much in the prison and he would only recite the TAVASOL prayer and he would only talk about Ali Reza. Still I have not forgotten those moments.

The Iraqi Baathist forces took Ali Reza to Baghdad and different garrisons; in fact they wanted to do it and to show that Imam Khomeini sends even little children to the battlefields!

Ali Reza was in front of the domestic and foreign cameras; the Iraqi officials in a childish language asked from Ali Reza: “Aren’t you sorry for coming to the battlefields of war? You could stay with your mom, so tell us what do you want? Do you want toys, if you want we can bring for you? They wanted to influence Ali Reza and to play with his emotions, but Ali Reza the 10-year-old teenager the only word that he expressed against their speech was “Can you bring a Koran book for me?”? By these few words, the reality was shown and the Iraqi Baathist forces were not able to achieve their goals, so they returned Ali Reza to his father after a month; the scene that the son and father were reunited was really interesting and I can say that if there was a camera, this lovable scene could be recorded.

The door of the prison ‘Mavasel 2’ was opened, the little Ali Reza who was the big man of this test with his short height passed among the Iraqi soldiers and he entered the prison and he hugged his father; the other prisoners of war were watching the scene from behind the fences and barbed wires and they whispered this poem loudly: “The lost Joseph returns to Canaan, so don’t worry! The sorrows cottage becomes a flower garden, so don’t worry!”? On the day that this son and father were reunited was really fantastic in a way that some of the Iranian and Iraqi soldiers cried in tears when they saw this scene; When Ali Reza wanted to enter the prison where his father had been jailed expressed a lovely calling for prayer and it was one of the most beautiful calling for prayer of my lifetime.
