Title: For My Son … |
[…] I had finished my job. I had come out of home in the morning and it was 4:30 in the after noon. I had searched all alleys and streets. I had referred to many hospitals and the places where martyrs were kept. My tongue and throat had become dry and my legs could not carry my body any more. I was unable to speak. I was really tired […]
Now I have become inured to martyrs and the places where martyrs are kept in order to be identified. I still come and go. And to some extent, I have become expert in recognizing the martyrs. I help the people who have come to find their martyrs. I look at the photo of their sons, husbands, etc and compare it with the photos of martyrs. I compare eyebrow with eyebrow, eye with eye and I compare the color of hair in two pictures. I consider the whole shape of face. I have identified few martyrs by now; but there is no news about “Mehrdad” [The person I am looking for] […]
I arrive at the “Me’raj” [Where the bodies of martyrs are kept in order to be identified] at 6:00 o’clock in the morning. I arrived there sooner than any one else. I take the documents and go to “Me’raj Hall” along with Mr Nasrollahi. He opens the door of the cold room and one person brings out the coffin. I guess that there is nothing in the coffin except bones. And my guess was right. There was a bunch of broken bones covered with a clean white cloth inside the coffin. I sit next to the coffin. I keep silence for some time. Then I raise my head to the sky and say loudly: “Oh God! Please help me! Is it what has remained from my 17 year old son?”
And then I thank God. I welcome “Mehrdad” [My son]. And I ask him to come and meet me at the first night that I die. I start to study the bones. First I look at its skull. I remember what “Mahmoud Ahmad Khou” had told to me eight years ago. He had told me that “Mehrdad” had fallen on his face. I guess that the bullet might have hit his forehead. And now, after eight years, there are three bullets inside his bones. I take one of the bullets and put inside the hole that has been made in his forehead. The bullet goes inside the hole till the middle part. Later I count the bone one by one. The shinbone of one of his legs is not here […]
All important events in the life of “Mehrdad” occurred on Tuesday. And I do not know the reason of that. “Mehrdad” was born on Tuesday night of March 8th, 1966. He was dispatched from Tehran to Ahvaz on Tuesday, May 11th. He went to the front lines of battle fields on Tuesday, May 18th. And he was martyred o9n Tuesday, May 25th. His martyrdom was announced to us on Tuesday, October 19th. And we succeeded to hold a funeral ceremony for him within one week on Tuesday, October 26th. [….
